My Return After A Long Hiatus & Why Bagged Straight-Suction Canisters Are Awesome

Hey guys, it's been so long since I last posted on here. I've been so busy IRL.

I live in my own apartment and I own a Bissell Zing bagged canister. With a set of high quality attachments and cloth HEPA filtration bags, it's an awesome machine. Best $80 ever spent.

If I lived in a place with all barefloor again, I'd absolutely buy a bagged straight suction canister or a bagged backpack over using a broom.

You're not wrong there.

A Eureka Mighty Mite or the Hoover PortaPower commercial canister might be better as they do not need cord reels and their bags are bigger. Hell, they have shoulder straps, so no need to wheel it around.

I'd also include Oreck's compact canister or whatever Tacony sells that is straight-suction. The Bissell Zing is also sold as a Simplicity Jill, if that makes any sense. I also forgot Miele and Kenmore.

Now if only Dirt Devil and Shark can sell bagged straight-suction canisters again, they would take off well.

I can’t wait to see how Miele’s new Guard canister line performs when they finally make it to North Anerican stores. I am especially curious about the S1 compact canister with the improved dust bag dock under the hood.

Rumour has it that Sebo will also be releasing a new line up in 2025 - excited to see how these new Sebos will perform as well. Hope we see some headlights on their power nozzles finally!

I spoke to John Van Leuven a few weeks ago who's the CEO of SEBO USA, and there aren't any new models coming out anytime soon at least not here in the US. He mentioned that some of the models like the Felix could use a facelift, but the only thing new we've already gotten from SEBO just recently are the limited edition pastel colors that'll be available for at least a couple years.

It'll be interesting to see the new Miele L1, I'm already concerned about what's underneath. If there's alot of circuitry, it'll be a pass for me just like their bagless models. I loved the C1 Classic models when I worked at a Miele dealer, they're just so simple. If I wanted the most powerful canister on the market today, it'd be the C1 Classic Homecare Powerline. But if I could choose any canister on the market today, it'd be the SEBO E3 Premium because in my opinion it's the best of the best.

I wouldn't recommend a Eureka Mighty Mite if the floors are wood cause they'd scratch them, a Bissell BGC3000 would be a better choice. I don't care much about any canister that has a shoulder strap, they're so uncomfortable for myself where I'd rather take a backpack instead as long as it's bagged. I'd also take a Simplicity Jill over a Bissell Zing cause they have better filtration. Kenmore is likely history by now. My recommendation for a bagged straight suction canister today would be either Miele or Numatic.

At least in the Mighty Mite's defense, one can swap out its included bare floor tool for something that will not scratch hardwood flooring. That's the benefit of having an inch and a quarter fitting.

The Bissell Zing benefits most from HEPA cloth Simplicity Jill bags and I don't notice the filters getting dirty when I use it.

Yes…the deluxe Guard L1 (large) looks interesting - possibly Miele’s answer to the Sebo Airbelt as it diffuses the exhaust in the side bumpers as well. But I would bet that the well-known powerful Miele airflow is not that good on this new LI: the path of the air is very complicated and not very direct. It looks like the air is sucked downward below the bag compartment, then over to a downward facing fan then sideways through a front facing hepa exhaust filter and then into a gap in the center of the machine where it exits into the fabric bumper on each side of the canister. This convoluted air path could really decrease air flow.

This is why I agree that the compact S1 Miele may be a great little simple powerful vacuum….it retains a lot of the features of the C1.

The bottom line is that Mighty Mites have always used plastic wheels so regardless of what bare floor tool you'd use, you're still going to scratch wood floors. My Bissell that I bought shortly after selling my Mighty Mite has rubber wheels which is one of the reasons why it's a better choice, you also can get a HEPA filter, accessories are more quality, and you can use an electric power nozzle. ProTeam used to have canisters that are similar to Mighty Mites and my Bissell but had the same motors that are also used in their backpacks, by far the most powerful canisters I've ever used.

You may use cloth bags on the Bissell Zing from the Simplicity. But I do know the HEPA filter wouldn't fit from the Simplicity. Either way, they both aren't sealed systems. At least the Simplicity I can confirm that it isn't. I would've maybe bought the Zing over the Simplicity if the price was a little more less but that's just in my opinion.

No, they don't. But I'll give them credit that the filters can be washed in the washing machine.

One fellow I used to know found the Mighty Mites good for vacuuming out transmitters.Feel the bag is too small for floor cleaning.That makes the bag fill fast.

AM,FM,TV broadcast transmitters.The part of the station that generates and modulates the signal that you receive on your radio.These have many forced air cooled parts-the fans and blowers can suck in dust that gets into the transmitter inner parts-they can have high voltages on them-like many kilovolts of DC.At the site I work at now the transmitters generate 100,250 or even 500kw of power.The output of the transmitter goes into a transmitting antenna that radiates the statio9ns signal so you can receive it.If the HV parts get to dirty and dusty it can arc over causing damage.transmitters are rated in watts of output power.The station buys a transmitter for the output power the station is licensed to use.

I have a Hoover Commercial Portapower I got a few years ago, but I haven’t used it.

Kenmore vacuum cleaners are most definitely still around! Target, Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes all selling them online.

straight suction canisters

For straight suction canisters, I would suggest the Sebo E1, a Numatic Henry or the Titan 1400. In particular, the Titan is an awesome small straight suction canister. Also, Perfect makes a canister similar to the Eureka Mighty Mite that is really powerful.

There's a canister I'm very interested in trying out, it's the newest Patriot that's in purple unless the color recently changed again. Apparently they now use a different motor that makes it a workhorse. If only Silver King was still around, they could develop their newest model with an even more powerful central vac bypass motor and put in an adapter to make it bagged, that I think would be an unstoppable portable machine!
