Well, I got the chance to obtain a few old vacs from house clearances on Ebay - a very nice guy was selling a lot of 11 vacs for just £40 very local to me - so I had to jump at the chance and went to fetch them the same day. There was a description of them but no pics so I was going to have to be surprised by them when I got there.

Here goes the list:

2 Hoover Juniors 1346 type - 1 of them was a refurb with a very stiff motor which hardly ran at all and split bellows, the other a dark yellow model that seems to run OK
1 Hoover Junior U1036 in brown and beige - works well, needs a cleanup.

2 Hoover Senior 652A models - 1 of which runs well, the other has no plug and is untested.
1 Hoover Senior 652C later model with blanked out headlamp plate - runs very well indeed.

Electrolux 500 - this is in reasonable nick for its age, bump strip slightly perished but runs OK
Electrolux 502S - in good cosmetic condition, but bump strip perished, no filters present and brushroll completely worn out - virtually bristle-less lol motor works OK
Electrolux 560E - great cosmetic condition but motor a bit iffy - sounds bearing related.

1 Hoover Turbopower 2 U2462 in good condition, good brushroll, but filters clogged and belt slipping, so will need good clean in and out - All tools present.

1 Kirby Heritage 1 - poor cosmetic condition, very tarnished after being in a shed for a long time - has a Heritage 2 bag. Motor works OK but no belt of inner bag. Will need total overhaul.

So there they are - and what a great deal for just £40 - cleaning these up will take me a fair while, but not sure about getting parts for the ones that need them - will have to check out ebay.

Are brushrolls / brushroll strips, and rubber bumper strips still available for the ELectrolux 500 series? 560 could need replacement motor, will have to dismantle that to inspect motor properly, but could be terminal as is noisy ( motor bearings maybe)
I believe bellows are still available for the Juniors.

Heres the pics

Thats a good haul for £40

Congratulations Steve, plenty there to keep you busy for a few weeks :)

Of all of them the dark yellow one is most interesting - is it a re-build that has been painted, for I have never seen a 1346 in that colour scheme, and although its hard to tell from the photo, the handgrip appears to be the same as that fitted to the Senior Ranger (U4002, U4014) which I have never seen on any Junior before. So it would be interesting top establish if it another special (and there were oh so many of them) or just a re-build of cobbled together parts

Motor spindles can still be obtained on Ebay and other places, junior spares seem easier to get than those for the seniors.
I just love that 652A models, such a classic design, but I cant date them as they dont have the newer style serial numbers - so I'd say they must be late 60's models. The 652C seems to be a 1974 model, and I'm wondering why it never had the headlight - have removed the hood and there is no bulb holder inside either.

Main difference between the 652A and the 652C apart from the headlight ommission is that the 652C has a newer style of height adjuster used on the Ranger, whilst the older 652A only has a 2 height setting.

Tried to lubricate the motor bearings on the white junior - what a pig of a job, have to remove the entire motor and wheels etc, then remove the motor casing and capacitor etc. total strip down essentially. The senior is so much easier to work on than the junior which did surprise me.

Seems the TP2 has been used without an inner bag at some time as inside is a right mess. Will need to strip it down and clean out motor housing etc.

Does anyone else own an electrolux 500 series - and do they have the problem of the rubber bumper strip totally perishing and splitting - mine all seem to be chronically perished and cracked - they can stll be obtained but they want nearly £30 each for a new bumper strip, and I aint paying that much!

The yellowy brown junior seems to me like it is severely nicotine stained, but havent tried to see if this will clean up - kind of adds to its character and age.

Thanks Jamie - am making a shopping list for the 500's will need the bin filters and brush strips for the one, and all 3 need the furniture guard rubbers.
Need to totally strip them all down first though to see what else needs to be bought. I am a little worried about the noise the 560 motor is making though - seems to run but then squeels a bit and motor slows down and speeds up again - could be terminal :-( and getting motors for a 560 is like near on impossible now, as its a higher wattage for the electronic vario control. Pity as the 560 is a great cleaner - it even has an illuminated on off switch.

Hoover Junior furniture gaurds can be cut down and used for Electrolux models 500 / 502 / 504 but not for anything with the large roller brush as the guard tapers on the front edges.

The motors in the electronic cleaners were 10 watts higher to accomodate the loss of wattage which the electronic panel absorbs. It was a futile exercise and any motor of that size will fit and will work with the electronic cleaners. You just have to study the internal wiring as the electronic models had the suppressor in the handle. The suppresor on the standard motor will need removing.

The squealing noise on the 560 sounds familiar to what my late Electrolux 502 did and it turned out to be a worn belt pulley causing the belt to drift into the plastic.

Good luck on finding a replacement motor - I don't envy you in that task.

Just tested the 652A without the plug on it - very rough condition due to being in damp conditions, but tidied up OK. Lubed the brushroll bearings and the motor top bearing - put a light bulb in, and a new bag and belt - It works well and the motor is sweet - but the brushroll strips are worn, so will need replacing - although it still vibrates the carpet well!
Oh and the back wheels seem to have seen better days as well - very worn!

Ideally it needs to be painted when I can do it - any idea of the best kind of paint to do it with?

Can anyone date the serial number JT91195 ?

My other 652A is serial number JT473959 I guess about the same period, but a bit later?
