Hey Everybody,

My mom has had the same Miele s230i canister vacuum since September of 1985.

She had the motor rebuit in 1996. (I'm not sure I remember exactly why).

She is still using the same vacuum. It still has very strong suction, but I have noticed that the after-motor filter is extremely black with carbon dust.

My mom doesn't want to put the vacuum in for service, as she doesn't want to spend the money...but I am almost tempted to snatch it from her and force it to be serviced, as I know it will probably last her for another 10 years AT LEAST with a proper servicing.

I'm torn...what do you guys think I should do? I have a feeling the carbon brushes are probably worn down a fair deal. I'd rather mom spend a few bucks replacing them than have to spend a few hundred bucks on a new vacuum.

You can replace the brushes yourself. It is not very hard, I did it on my Kirby and I had no electric motor experience. I would definately not throw it out!
