Hello folks! Been ages.

I could not find the previous post, so I thought I would just report to say I found my missing Kirby!
I cannot believe I forgot that I partially disassembled it to fit into a tub! Found it today while looking for my Burgundy Compact (with the gold dust attachments). With it was a Royal Pony I also had forgotten about. Will have to check to make sure everything is there, and I think the hose has hardened.

They were stored in the garage and are being moved into the house front room.

Correction

Thanks Ben and Huskyvacs. Was really cool to re-find it. Now I have to figure out where I put the handle.

The Royal is not a Pony, rather it is a Power Tank. Not the royal blue, the lighter sky blue.

The Compact has not been cleaned, whooooo, smells like dog. I will tackle that in time.

Meeee, Too!

I think I have 3 boxed set of tools (1 large and 2 small) in addition to those in the tub. I am praying I did not get rid of it (AAAAAAAAH) when I could not find the machine. That would be a tragedy.
Film at 11.

Okay, I found the handle and a question...

Yesterday I did some sorting out of a drum of misc. things: brooms, Elux wands, garden implements and found the handle. Apparently, it had gotten separated from the tub. I had wrapped it in plastic to protect the label.

One speculation is that I had dismantled the vac. to polish it. A forgotten project.

As for the Conpact vac. smelling of dog, I placed it into a large tub with a device that "ionizes" organic material to eliminate the odor. Should work.

HELP!
Can someone tell me what to do about the 2 Sanitronic hoses who have become a bit stiff and seem to have a white-ish film on the surface.

Dog odor removal...

I recently acquired an Oreck compact canister at Goodwill for the princely sum of $5 and although I didn't notice a dog odor in the store, it was pronounced when I turned the machine on. My solution, after a cursory cleaning—I did not disassemble it—was to run it with the bag door removed and to spray floral scented disinfectant spray (Walmart knockoff of Lysol) into the bag chamber for about 10-15 seconds and then let it run for a minute or so. This seems to have alleviated the odor problem, but next time I'm down in my barn, I'll fire it up again and see what, if anything, I smell. It appeared to have been run without a bag or after-filter (it now has both), but thankfully, there doesn't seem to be any debris rattling around inside the machine. I'm hoping to avoid having to completely disassemble it.

Thanks....

Human, my experiment did not work. I can still smell yuck. My next try will be with 9% strength vinegar. But I can't spray the vinegar into the running motor. I may try what you did. Let me know what you find when you check out your Compact.

Speaking of Vinegar, I wonder if I can clean the Kirby hose outside with that. I remember somewhere that GE tools would get a white film that was easily cleaned with vinegar.

Beyond that, can anyone tell me what I can do to restore the Kirby hoses?

Point of Clarification...

I don't, in fact, own a Compact brand canister. I was using the adjective 'compact' (note the lowercase 'c') to describe the form factor of the Oreck canister as being smaller than a full size canister such as an Electrolux.

Substitute For Kirby Rug Renovator

A few years ago, I used my Kirby Heritage II with a Rug Renovator from a Classic model that I rigged so it activates the low speed. Needless to say; the effort was futile because it did not function as well as in the past. If I were to shampoo the carpeting the old fashioned way with the suds-o-gun, then use the floor polisher nozzle to scrubb the suds into the carpeting. Could this be safe or not?
