I've seen very very good reviews on this Dirt Devil, and usually, I'm NEVER excited about new vacuums. They're usually all the same and build quality is insanely mixed. But this really harkens back to what Dirt Devil USED to be before they cheapened out tenfold in the 2010s. This has all the markings of their classic uprights too, the big logo, the almost 90 degree handle like the old Featherlites, the bright red, some red on the tools, etc. I feel like this was definitely an in house design, because of the similarities and overall aesthetic. Honestly to me, it looks like a new generation of the Featherlite Vision uprights, which were probably among the better Dirt Devil vacuums.

Save your money those are trash! All new Wally World vacuums are trash.. hell, you're better off getting the black bagged Bissell for $58, and I guarantee you it's a waaaaaay better unit for the money.

I'd say go for it. We only live once and you've made some reasonable points. I maybe would've bought one if my grandparents were still around. Actually since you've mentioned about the old Featherlite/Vision models, I was just thinking about it recently. My grandparents probably would've still had theirs have they bought it over the bagless Jaguar a few years before. I would've liked it better because I like that there's a HEPA filter after the motor and I would've diverted the hose easier. But if they were still around and we would've had to replace it today, like you said this kinda resembles the look of those old Featherlites/Visions. Knowing myself, I would've gotten something else for them like one of my Bissell ClearTraks. However I almost bought another Breeze style machine for my grandfather a few years ago on eBay since it was just like the old Jaguar, unfortunately it was just shortly before he passed away so I ended up passing on it.

I'd say go for it. They aren't bad at all. My neighbor has one as its a lot lighter than the Kenmore Progressive Direct Drive she had. Her daughter bought her one of those and I agreed to do a monthly service on it for her. It works well for her needs and she can use it a lot easier than her previous vacuum.

I bought an impulse buy myself. I bought a bagless Vacmaster Canister on sale from Amazon and have been pleased with it. I use it when vacuuming my car and attachment use in the house. Its in my regular rotation now with my Magic Blue for tool use.

Dirt Devil.....

has always been known as the more budget friendly brand, but by no means did that make them terrible vacuums. Me and my family had several. We had a plum refurbed Swivel Glide bagged, a Dynamite Plus, a F1 Featherlite bagless, a few of the hand vacs like the classic, the ultra, scorpion, and even a cool little detailer for my desktop. All of them were great! My grandmother had a Featherlite Vision my mom would use whenever we went over to help her out. That thing was great!!! When we went over to my aunt's old house in NJ about 20 years ago, she let me play with the blue Broom Vac she had. Never had a problem with any DD. This one sadly doesnt have a HEPA filter but atleast it has a filtration system. Didnt expect MUCH at first cause 2010 Dirt Devil really hit a low spot but this thing picked up sand and grit that I wouldve never expected from modern Dirt Devil.

Two vacuums I will always recommend to buy, that everyone else completely s**ts on is the Eureka Brushroll Clean With SuctionSeal AS3401A (yes thats its genuine name - don't laugh) and the Bissell PowerForce Bagged 1739. Both were sold for the sub-$60 price point in the mid-2010's and are insanely good vacuums for that price margin at that point in time. You have to buy one, or both, to be part of "the club" and know how good they are, as everyone else just takes one look at them and immediately disregards them as "junk".

You're definitely right John, Royal originally didn't intended to make Dirt Devil as a sister brand. When the Royal Dirt Devil hand vac hit the market, everybody started to nickname the company Dirt Devil. And they figured that it'd be a great name for the budget market since the hand vac was a huge success. They actually ended up outselling the other brand Royal. I think that's why TTI decided to hang onto Dirt Devil cause it was still a popular brand, it was planned to be defunct with Royal so they could focus on both Hoover and Oreck. Now Dirt Devil is their budget brand with Hoover being mid grade and Oreck as their premium brand. But TTI has a licensing agreement with H-P Products in Louisville, OH to produce and sell high quality American made central vacs for Dirt Devil (minus the RV vac). They aren't going anywhere from what I was told. While Dirt Devil hasn't really been like the best, I really did liked some of their stuff. In fact I used to love Dirt Devil at one point, then I later hated them like they were the worst brand, and now I love them again. Just like Oreck as well, also loved them at first, later I didn't, and now I love them again. Speaking of which, it'd be a dream of mine if TTI built again a Oreck XL Classic and renamed it as a Dirt Devil Featherlite with type B bags like the blue Royal version they made before. Also be cool if it was paired with a classic canister under the Dirt Devil name as well. I have a hard time seeing why they wouldn't do it. Regardless of what, if I really wanted a Dirt Devil today, it'd definitely be a central vac even if it's free standing. They are the best Dirt Devils ever made and one of if not the best central vacs on the market today. I'd prefer a bagged version but they also sell bagless models with a pleated style filter like on the old Dirt Devil bagless portables, my recommendation is to clean the filter off every time you're done using it and it'd last longer.

Keep in mind....

I am by NO MEANS a proponent of most modern vacuums. Im sick of seeing all the same Shark and Dyson cyclone clones. I dont ever shop at the retailers anymore. BUT...this new line of Dirt Devils looks different from the rest. Screams a callback to the vacuums from the 2000s. Aesthetic and all, with of course a few minor modern modifications. But from what ive seen its a beast against sand grit and other deep down embedded dirt. More so than the Bissell Powergroom I used to own. I think its worth giving a shot. I also have a few bagged units currently I enjoy using, my 03 translucent Hoover Breathe Easy (with the caddy vac hood) and my 2023 Hoover OnePwr cordless upright. Great vacs! But I can agree Dirt Devil took a serious downturn in the 2010s. They made vacuums that looked like the toys they used to make!!!!

A rebranded Oreck XL Classic Dirt Devil Featherlite. First off, how cool it would be to reintroduce the Featherlite name after the 2010s junk they put out. Secondly, a red featherlite with an Oreck platform would be INSANE to see. I'd love the bag to be a BRIGHT red though, not like a black with red elements (like the bagless above). Just red, like their old uprights and hand vacs. Ironically that might even perform and be better built compared to some of the old Featherlites. I'd absolutely get that.

That'd be cool if it were fully red, both Hoover and Oreck already have theirs as red including black as well which I'm assuming that's the cheapest color to make just like when the central vacs used to be fully red but now they're black. I seriously doubt this would ever happen but it'd also be really cool if Dirt Devil went back to the commercial market. Not only they'd have the commercial Orecks as part of their line but also bring back the classic Royal metal uprights as well even if they're fully black instead of red like they used to make before. I've never had a direct air or any bypass machine that cleaned my carpets just as well if not better than the metal Royal 10 amp commercial I used to have which I've regretted parting ways with.
