Just saw aa post on Facebook saying Miele vacuum cleaners now have majority of components made in China. Is this true?

I was under the impression that Miele cleaners had been built there for some time, but I know not of why I thought that.

Fact is, building anything in China does not mean cheap rubbish. There seems to be a real misunderstanding in this world that all China can do is make rubbish. No. The quality of the end product will come down to what the organisation who commission it have specified. The Far East can compete on many aspects to bring a price down, but that doesn't mean it has to go any lower than is requested. When goods had a higher retail price and consumers were willing to spend more, it was possible to manufacture in Europe. Many times it is said this is no longer possible.

Although I did not make the video shown in Reply #8, I am the current owner of that machine and I can truly say that it is one powerful beast indeed!

Here area few more pictures of it so that you can see the remarkable workmanship that went into this Chinese product. FYI this a Royal Everlast 8300 which retails new in the U.S.A. for about $789.00

I know the S2/C1 range are made in China and assembled in Germany. Some of the dusting tools might be chinese made too, IIRC. But the higher end stuff is still all made in Germany.
