Miele Wand ?

I have a Miele stainless wand (circa 2000) that is broken and I'd like to know if it can be repaired. The latching mechanism that makes it stay extended is not working, so it won't lock in the extended position. (It does extend and retract, but just doesn't lock into place.) Is this repairable? I know Miele does a wonderful job of selling every last little part, so I thought it was worth asking. (And new ones are awfully pricey!)
