Miele Salsa Upright Find

Hi Everyone!

Hello from COLD Michigan! I just wanted to share my joy of finding a Miele Salsa Upright vacuum from our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore (thrift store) for a whopping... $10.00! With a laugh I told the cashier "I'm not going to tell you what these retail for!". It works perfectly, is several years old, and has plenty of brushroll life left. Definitely needs a new bag and probably HEPA filter, though, and will be good to go! I had owned one of these a while ago and loved it. But being the vacuum freak I am get rid of and try different ones. So knowing the cost of these new, this made my day and my Christmas as well. The only thing is that there are plenty of white scuff marks on front body of vac. Is there any compound or chemical readily available that would get rid of those without totally ruining the body? Thanks in advance!

I have had luck with a Magic Eraser in removing scuffs and paint transfer from machines.  I guess it would depend on how deeply the scuff was.

Paint Scuffs.....

Fastest and easiest way is to use 91% alcohol and a clean rag. Comes right off with minimal effort. I first wipe down the vac with a moistened clean rag with water and a touch of detergent. Then attack the paint scuffs with the alcohol. Lastly another wipe in those areas with a final polish with Mother's plastic polish. Shines of real nice. Gouges and deep scrapes, I leave.

Others have suggested Hand Sanitizer and a rag for paint scuffs.

I find that alcohol rubs off the shine on plastics so I only use it to get rid of glue or adhesive on glass. For plastics I use a cloth dabbed with a little bit of lighter fluid. Be careful not to rub the surface too hard and let the fluid do its work...

Simple Green

Simple Green works best for me. I've found that a Magic Eraser can dull the plastic's shine and remove some color from the plastic leaving behind splotches.

I second the magic eraser. In fact, I used it on my Miele canister to clean it up before selling it. That was an incredible deal on the Salsa. Should you be inclined, I'm sure that would sell easily for 10X what you paid for it.

Thank you everyone for the fast responses! To the user suggesting alcohol and then Mother's Plastic Polish, see attached pic for the numerous scuffs. After using alcohol on the white spots, I'm assuming I should use Mother's on the whole body then? Thanks again!
