The Miele S8 range is now available from John Lewis with prices ranging from £199.95 ($314) to £419.95 ($660) for the Uniq model with the led handle light.

There are six models currently shown, some straight suction, some with turbo heads but non with power heads which makes me think that the UK will not get a power head option. I expect the USA will get one or two versions with a power head.

They have the same capacity and cord length as the S5 range, so no improvements have been made there. It looks that the differences are mainly cosmetic.

The Uniq model is ridiculously expensive for a straight suction canister, though I expect when it becomes widely available it will offered for less, as John Lewis tend to be more expensive than a lot of electrical retailers. My new Sebo D4 Premium cost £249.95 ($393) so I won't be rushing to get the S8 Uniq. My Sebo may not look as fancy as the Miele but I know which one performs better.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess Miele UK may well push for the cordless battery operated power nozzle that they've tried to sell for years as an optional buy on the TOL models.  Here's a spec comparison shot of the base S5211 (a model I quite like) versus the black S8 base priced at £199 compared to £169 for the older S5. Evidently S5 (to the left) is slightly bigger and heavier but both feature the same length of power cord. I'm prepared to give the S8 a chance, even though I'm not keen on the shape.

Also, I've noticed the S8's are currently listed as a John Lewis exclusive. I imagine they'll come down in price when other retailers such as Comet, Currys and Argos start stocking them. Similar deal with that ridiculous John Lewis exclusive Sebo

Miele S8 now Available from John Lewis

Just noticed why does it say only a 2 year warranty? The Miele I just bought had 7 years.
I heard they will be moving to a lighter weight plastic with the new S8's. My Miele has the lighter weight plastic and it seems to be ok. I wonder if they introduced it on the lower tier machines to see how it holds up under use. Does anyone know it the light in the hose handle is simialar to the Kenmore light at the hose end? I don't see any real purpose, but I like it.
I wonder what will happen to the light when customers drop the hose handle over the years? Of course collectors would use care and not let this happen.

s8 uniQ

The uniQ has nice deals to it with its led light and velvet lined tool compartment, the solution is going back to john Lewis, i thought i might keep them both but as i am about to move to a smaller property one will be enough : )

Miele S8 now avialable from John Lewis

Mattt,
They both look the same except for the finish. What is the difference between the S8 and the Solution?
Do we see any up grade in the motor, longer electric cord or longer hose, better attachments or is it mostly cosmetic?
Both have a nice finish on the machine.

S8

hi

The uniQ is much nicer to look at, the gloss paint, stainless steel trim instead of painted silver, velvet bumper bar and tool compartment lining, the led lights for the side parking slots, the wheels have suspension and little grooved tyres and of course the torch facility : )

i did want the premium 8000 with remote and power head but i have been told we won't get it, the only one with remote S8730 won't have a power head.

On the continent the uniQ has the 1200w motor and the airteQ nozzle, the floor head is just ordinary, i do have an airteQ head, allergotec head and a turbo comfort i can use with it.

I would not say with the tools supplied it is worth the £420 price but then again i did buy a Hybrid when they were launched which had very basic tools

Both the solution and uniQ have same motors, hose and flex lengths

Matt
