miele S7 I Changed my Opinion.

I sold my Miele S7 thinking is was not that great and have been using a Sebo X4 since. I was under the opinion the Miele was over rated and the brush was too agressive the unit is heavy and bulky and so on. Than I was struck with sellers remorse, I wondered if my Miele was better? It has more suction than the Sebo and the brush is much more aggressive. Sellers remorse was getting worse.

I was hoping to find another great deal on a Miele S7 but thought I blew it. The one I had was a Salsa I purchased used with some scratches and a couple missing tools. I than went to a store called Bath Bed and Beyond, thinking maybe they would have a sale or something. I walked by the section where the open box items are kept and could not believe my eyes. A Jazz brand new with a damaged box for 50% off. I grabbed it and asked the cashier, is there anything else you can discount this vacuum? She asked me, do you have a coupon? I responded that I would drive home and get one if she would hold the Miele for me. She said do not worry you can use mine and took another 20% off. So now I was getting a brand new $549.00 Miele for $211.00 USD.

I can honestly say after taking this machine home and vacuuming, I believe the Miele S7 is the best performing upright made. The Sebo is built more solid for commercial use and a Miele canister is a better choice if you use attachments a lot. But if you take care of a Miele S7 and purchase it a good price, No upright can beat its performance.

I have also been having second thoughts about Sebo. I had gotten to the point I liked them a lot and was wanting to buy one someday. However, I was viewing Vacuum Wizard reviews for the newest Sebo Airbelt canister and while they gave it a good review, they stated it scored a not-so-good score of 70 on the suction power meter. They stated that compared to most other vacuums that was actually on the lower end of average. That really surprised (and disappointed me). Doesn't mean I still won't buy one, but it does make me think long and hard. I like a good strong vacuum with high powered motors. I feel you need it to effectively clean thick carpeting, furniture, mattresses, and everything else I use them for.

I have the Salsa too and I got it a couple months ago from the original owner for 150...  it was missing all the tools, but I fell in love immediately.  I noticed that Bed Bath and Beyond here has discontinued carrying the Miele uprights and now have 2 Miele canisters instead... one is the straight suction canister and one is with the SEB 217 power nozzle.


 


I was shocked when I read your previous opinion of the Miele S7 because I love mine...  I still use my Sebo X4 equivalent (Windsor Sensor S12) when I want something simple and drama free, but the agitation isn't nearly as aggressive as the Miele.  It came to the rescue the other day when I was in a hurry and trying to clean before the dishwasher repair man came over... The Miele was behind my bicycle and I didn't feel like moving it so I started out with the Simplicity 7 Series and the darn bare floor feature got stuck on... the brushroll wouldn't spin no matter what I did to that stupid slider (and the belt was new and in good shape)...  the Sebo/Windsor was so easy to whip out and take over the job that the Simplicity wasn't in the mood to finish....  I finally got the brushroll spinning again on the Simplicity and I'll never use the bare floor feature again.


 


The Sebo did make me mad one day when I was doing a move out clean for a friend who lived in my apartment complex and moved several hours away...  the bag became full during the middle of cleaning and the machine wouldn't run due to the stupid safety feature...  I had to stop in the middle of cleaning and drive all the way back to my place on the other side of the complex to get a new bag and it wasted a lot of time.


 


I thought those 20 percent off coupons specifically excluded Dyson and Miele products in the fine print so that was really nice that the lady let you use it...  I like Bed Bath and Beyond because of their liberal return policy, though they are usually overpriced... whenever I got there, I want to buy everything I see....

20% coupon

If the store manager is cool the 20% is good for any product. I never knew they would let Me use it on somethng that was 50% off. In my opinion the Sebo will hold up better and is more bullet proof, the Miele must be taken care of as it does not seem as well built. It is however a better cleaning machine with more suction and an much stronger roller brush. I have seen a lot of Miele S7's beat up and abused by people who should not own a nice vacuum.

For me, the Miele S7 is too big, heavy and difficult to steer. Granted the SEBO doesn't promote itself on having the highest suction - it never has done - but for an all rounder, its pretty good and you can fix and repair it yourself should it go wrong. What Miele are missing is a compact upright bagged vacuum that could effectively act as a go between - the Quick Step isn't the solution though.

I never understood why Miele have a fixed hose with screws that you have to undo to take off the bottom hose on the S7 either. It seems to have good design points over and above this aspect even though the brush roll isn't removable. For those in the U.S and Canada where bigger homes take precedence, the S7 is a good modern alternative.

I have been in a similar position before when either bags on my Sebo or Miele canisters get too full and I've not taken replacements with me. I dont tend to buy the more modern Hyclean Miele bags but rather the older Intensive Clean bags - where excess dust can be shaken outside easily to give a bit more space to finish up the clean session I'm doing at the time if I'm out with my vacs and not near home.

Sebo's are smart

Sebo's are the common sense machine no doubt they are sold tanks. The s7 is the exotic performer that must be taken care of or it will fall apart. I also wish the Miele S7 was a little more compact and solid. As far as quality of material the Sebo is the clear winner. The S7 will clearly clean better than the Sebo but it does cost you. The Sebo is the Lexus and the S7 is the Porsche. Every time you open the Miele S7 bag door you wonder if it will close without breaking, this is never a concern with Sebo.
