From the little I know on these,other than the word Quality applies,this looks like one of the best conbinations of vac,hose,power nozzle and floor brush.

What makes this one better than the newer models? Forgive me if the answer is already widely known. I am new to this vacuum world and trying to grasp as much info as I can. I am interested in the s8 Marin with 236PN right now and never thought to look at the older models as the better ones.

Hello and welcome

Curtis , I was a Miele dealer and sold that model . I never had any returs for repairs . I owned and gave my sister a S5 Miele Capricorn . I am a vacuum lover and used mine with the utmost care and I taught my sister also to care for vacuums . Both of us had many problems hose breaking tool door broke and my motor burned out . I feel the older models were built better and hope the new S8 are built as well as the older ones . Aluminium, Silver Moon and Blue Moon are the best Mieles ever IMHO .

Dan, I agree with you....the Miele S500 series was their best models. However, I personally feel that the best Miele models in this series comes a couple of years later, in 2004 when the Vortex motor was introduced. I have a 2002 Miele S538 Monte Verde, which would be the model just below the Aluminum, which has the 1100w double-stage motor, & a 2004 Miele Red Velvet with the 1200w Vortex motor. Sure, the Monte Verde cleans well & has plenty of power....but the Red Velvet just feels like it leaves the rug cleaner, even when the 236 powerhead is used. I think in 2004, they finally had everything in their product perfected.
