Matlock's Fords

As a fan of Ford Crown Victorias, I always found it interesting that Andy Griffith always had one on the series Matlock. I always wondered if it was connected to him driving a Ford Galaxy on Matlock. When production moved to NC I noticed his car had "Cape Fear Ford" logo on the back. I located the dealer to see if they could tell me what happened to his last one, but they had no record. It was funny how he was so cheap, but always had the latest top model in gray on gray leather.

I wonder..

If he drove Fords in real life, I do know Lawrence Welk drove Dodges until he died, they were his first sponsor and he stayed with them.

It was more his personal preference than anything else. I do love the Crown Vic & the show Matlock. He had always driven Fords. In the first episode he drove a Lincoln TownCar, and in a season 4 or 5 episode he drove a black Lincoln Continental. I feel like the Crown Vic was a good fit for him being cheap. It was comfortable, luxurious, and reliable while being a conservative, non flashy car.

I remember him on TV mentioning an antique car collection and Ford Mo A.And read that he was seen near his home on NC coast driving an original 2 seat T-Bird maybe in the 90s.
