Maintenance on the Electrolux Lx

So i was going to pull apart my Electrolux Motor (lx). I had some problems. The machine frame is rusting, as is the motor. I couldnt get the fan cover off completely. I wanted to clean the motor, and change my bearings and carbons. I couldnt figure it out. Will have to send it to Nathan. I also want to re-paint my Logo as This is a Metropolitan rebuild and was painted. How should I remove the paint from the rails?

It helps to have a little patience with the older machine.


Lay the motor down as shown in pic, and spray some penetrating fluid around the circumference.


Let it soak for a bit.

I've known Nathan for many years, and he's very good at this type of repair. Most likely he'll restore it to the original look. By the way, the side rails are called nameplates, and the ones you have are not correct, they should be red lettering on a yellow background.

The cord winder and upper trim look like hammertone blue, which with the wheels and chrome nameplates are all later parts, that go to LX's of 1953, or 54. In the pictures it looks like they removed the leatherette, and the body has been painted.

If I know Nathan he'll get it to eject correctly. Watching it on Youtube is nice, but far better to see it live.

Additional parts for the LX?

Did you get a cord winder and dusting brush? Those are not shown in the other pictures.

Well, I talked to Nathan. Im sending him the Motor in 2016 to work on. The machine was painted in 1983 by the Metropolitan Company when it was re built. That's why im trying to remove thee Nameplates and strip their paint. All the Attachments, and Cord-winder were later acquired as was this hose. The machine came to me bare bones with Metro attachments. I have gotten the ejector working (With help from BikerRay), but it doesn't yet have the line running from the suction port to the Mechanism. this also doesn't have the adjuster dial. The picture shows what came when I got it
