Made In Spain

Hi All,

I have not been posting much this year, but I had to find out a little more info on a Miele Upright I found left at the curb for trash. It runs great but needs a belt. It also had a Hoover type A bag shoved into it. I have not seen any Miele uprights before so even though I'm more into vinatge vacs, this one is a keeper and may become a daily driver on my second floor. Its one my wife will use too.

Anyways, its a Miele S1711 "Powerhouse" and it looks similar to a Panasonic upright. It even has the same style tools as a Panasonic. I figured it may have been built by them, but it has a tag that says it was made in Spain. Also, the brushroll has plastic beater bars and has bristles that go right out to the edge of the nozzle.

Has anyone else seen or used these machines? Maybe you guys from across the pond can shed some light on this vac.

It's a UK Panasonic upright. They were all made in spain up until a few years back. My Mum had one for years. Great vacuums and they last forever but the brush is a bit pathetic for my liking.

I figured they were Panasonic. I've seen Panasonics and well as Kenmores that looked similar. I'm just wondering how much more the price of these were compared to the Kenmores and Panasonics. I'm sure whoever bought this new paid dearly for the Miele name.

I've got Panasonic bags and belts that should work fine on this machine.

The did pay dearly for the name. Those vacs were under $200 at Sears and over $300 Mielerized at stores I'd see them at back in Calgary. Now whether they had the same motor or not couldn't say but not likely nor worth the difference

The MCE-400 series that match the above cleaner...right down to the tools...sold for £89.99 when it first came out and then dropped to £69.99, then £49.99 before finally being taken off the market and replaced with a slightly varied designed and a higher wattage model

Hey Guys

The current version of this and the one before have been made in the "Good old PRC" for about 3 years now. They are basically the same cleaner but lack the belt stop switch

Also for the record...

With the exception of Sebo these are IMO the most reliable current upright around - certinally nothing can touch it for the money . In the 10 years ive worked where I do we have sold 100s of these and I could probably count the examples we have had back under guarantee(we are Panasonic service agents)on one hand....

Might I also add...

...a former floor manager of John Lewis - a big department store chain over here - recently told me that the Panasonic in question is their best-selling cleaner. They sell more of those than they do Dysons!
