Looking to buy Dyson DC17 Animal

After my dad unexpectedly sold our Dyson DC07 Animal, I've been on the lookout for another Dyson.

Lately, I've been drawn to the DC17 Absolute Animal, as that is the Dyson I really wish I would have chosen over the DC07 back then. Compared to the 07, the 17 had a better brushbar, better wand setup, and just seemed like a better machine all-around. But I believe Target was out of DC17s.

I placed some bids on one such DC17 on eBay, which included all attachments, Zorb powder, Dyzolv spray, and the manual. However, someone outbid me this morning, so I didn't win it.

This may be a long shot, but does anyone have a DC17 Animal that they would be willing to sell? I'm looking for one that is complete with all the attachments.

If no one else responds, I have a DC17 total clean(Blue top) I’d sell. Works great and all of the cyclones are clean. One of the only Dysons I like. No attachments though.

Have you ever considered getting a DC27 instead? I would recommend that one over the DC17. Better cyclone setup, the DC17 is known to have their cyclones clogged quite easily. Worse than the DC07. Easier access to the filters, one of the filters on the DC17 requires disassembling. And a MUCH comfortable handle, the DC17 had mixed responses (Myself included as I used to own one myself) from consumers for the awkward handle and tool usage for the wand. That's just in my opinion. Since you live up in WA, I would recommend that you would give Vacuum's Etc a call. They're an authorized Dyson dealer located in Tacoma and I'm sure that they would help find a DC17 for you IF that's what you're all set to go with. Anyways, those are my two cents here.

Unfortunately, I looked up information about the DC27, and found out that it's a pretty rare machine. I also looked at the DC28, but its Airmuscle technology doesn't seem to be repair-friendly.

As for that Dyson dealer you mentioned, it's pretty far from me, so I'm not sure if it's worth the drive down there just to get a DC17.

I'm sure that they would be able to ship a DC17 out to you, most vacuum shops are usually more than willing to ship a product out to customers who would prefer to not visit the store in person. Especially at a time like this. I wouldn't hesitate to contact the company and see what they could do for you.

Yes the DC27 is one of Dyson's more uncommon models, but I would still recommend it anyday over the DC17 or even the DC28. And I personally wouldn't recommend the DC28 unless if it's for collecting purposes. But that's just me. A couple of important tips to you from a former DC17 user. Make sure that you would have it's bottom seal of the cyclone assembly replaced, the old seals don't seal up the bottom of the canister very well which is one of the causes for clogged cyclones. Also wash out the pre motor filter more frequently, it can get dirty pretty fast. And be very careful using it on your carpets, the DC17 is also known to tear out the carpet fibers really fast because of it's stiff brushroll. It can get dirt out of the carpets better than the DC07 but it's also worse than the DC07 on picking up carpet fibers. This was the main reason why I sent my DC17 back because it was tearing up the carpet fibers on my carpets too much, it also explains why carpet manufactures would void the warranty if you use a Dyson vacuum on carpets. Now I don't want to make it sound like that you shouldn't get the DC17, no. But I'm just letting you know about some things that you should watch out for so in the end here, you wouldn't regret your purchase. Anyways, best of luck to you!

I just called Vacuum's Etc. in Tacoma, and they didn't have a single used vacuum in stock. So the guy transferred me to their Bremerton location. That store didn't have any used Dysons in stock at the moment; all they had were two types of Sharks, and two types of Kirbys.

I told the operator that I was looking for a DC17 in particular, and he is going to be on the lookout for one such machine to refurbish for me. When I told him I wanted an Animal model, he said that it was just a designation to a model that comes with extra attachments. I gave them my name and phone number, so they can call me back once a DC17 is in stock. Fingers crossed!

Yeah there's technically more than one DC17 model that Dyson has ever sold in America. There's actually 5 of them. The purple one, the yellow one, two blue ones, and a red one but that one was only sold up in Canada. And they're all the same vacuums. I personally liked the purple animal model the best, not only because it came with the extra attachments that I did liked but also I liked the looks of the purple color more than the other models.

3 weeks later, I have not heard a single word out of that vacuum store in Bremerton, regarding a DC17. So naturally, I had to look for an alternative.

Here's the silver lining: I have been stalking eBay for DC17 Animal vacuums, and the other day, came across one at a reasonable price with free shipping; it had been professionally serviced and cleaned. So I bought it after the seller gave me a slight discount on it today! This one only came with 2 of its attachments, but I also purchased the additional tools on eBay. Fingers crossed, hoping that my new (to me) DC17 arrives in one piece!

Good luck, Nick! It should arrive good. I bought a pair of 2 Dysons from a pawn shop and they shipped them pressed together facing opposite directions and then shrinkwrapped the entire job. No packaging, no covering, no padding, nothing. They arrived intact (somehow).
