Hello,

I recently acquired a Hoover model 28 manufactured in April, 1955. I purchased what I thought were the correct attachments on eBay, but the connector nozzle is stopped by a metal tab inside the slot on the side of the machine. Judging by the round hole on the bottom of the slot which is not present on my connector nozzle, I'm assuming I have an incompatible set. Does anyone have a set of attachments for the model 28 they would like to part with?

Thank you!

Michael

Not trying to upset you but...there were NO Hoover model 28 vacuums made in April 1955. The 28 was the economy model to the deluxe 61, made after World War II until 1950, when it was replaced by the 29.

You need a real, brown, model 28 hose adapter to work with your machine.

tom is right

in 1955 the current model wouldve been a model 63. you cant read serial numbers on hoovers prior to 1987 and discern dates. the numbers were in no way anything but internal catalog numbers of the unit number made for that model on the line. without a hoover production binders, you cant tell when it was made unless you know someone who does have a copy.

most machines that were number one off the line started with 00001 or 001001 depending on the era made. any other numbers were higher up (and later) in the production line of that model. thats it. not dates.

April 1955 ?

Good information above. If you are seeing a date of 4-55 is was common to stamp the date when serviced on the bottom of Hoovers. Most likely by a local Hoover dealer.

The Hoover Model 28 was sold from 1946 to 1950. The "4-55" was likely when it was last serviced by Hoover. I think that's the answer why your attachments aren't working.

I stole some photos from an eBay auction of a 100% complete and accurate Hoover Model 28 that ended back in February 2018 that might help you to know what the attachments look like. https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-19...vip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l10137

House

It looks like a hotel room. It looks similar to place I stayed in California a month and a half ago. You do have a recliner and no hotels are that homey. Your room is quite big too.

Hoover Mo 28

Nice Hoover & complete atts with box are getting harder to find!
It's been awhile since I used a Hoover for other than Beating,Sweeping & Cleaning carpet but I recall you should press rear of vac down when inserting hose connector to raise front of nozzle.

Thank you!

Thanks again for the replies, everyone. Turns out I made a newbie mistake and wasn't pressing down on the spring loaded rear of the vacuum before inserting the connector tool. Thanks for solving my problem! The attachments work very well.
