Hello,
I was wondering if anybody knew if there is any real difference between Cheer Regular Colorguard liquid detergent and the Cheer Free and Clear liquid detergent, besides the no dyes and perfumes. I was wondering basically if the Cheer Regular cleans better than the Free and Clear? Also, I was wondering if the Cheer Colorgaurd powdered detergent fades clothes? That is one thing I noticed when I used a powdered soap before. It was however, Arm & Hammer, not Cheer. Is that the same for all powdered soaps? Also, forgive me for being uncouth, but I have a problem getting out perspiration stains and the liquids don't really do much for that...at least All Free and Clear didn't. Even Tide and Cheer Free and Clear don't do much to help in that department either. I noticed that the perspiration and deodorant residue comes out a lot better on my white under shirts, when I use Tide Powder on my whites, but I'm scared to use any powdered products on my colors again. I'm hoping that either the regular Cheer liquid or Cheer Powder will get the perspiration and deodorant residue out of my colors without compromising the color integrity.
Thank you!

Detergent's Not the Problem.

The problem is that deodorants and anti-perspirants contain an ingredient called stearate, which is a fatty, waxy substance that repels water. Rub some of your antiperspirant onto your hand sometime, and then hold that hand under running water. You will see that the water beads up and rolls off your hand.

Since clothes are washed in water, having a water-repellent substance on them obviously poses a problem. Detergent does not break stearate down well enough to get the stain out, though hot water and oxygen bleach help. Unfortunately, hot water and oxygen bleach are not good for dark or bright colors.

The answer is a product made specifically to break down the stearate so that the stain can be released. There are two major ones: Raise and PitStop. Both are available on Amazon and other online retailers. Of the two, I would have to say that my experience has been more positive with Raise than with PitStop.

However, neither one works with shirts that have been bleached with chlorine bleach, so take that into account. A link to the Amazon page for Raise is below:
