Bought this Classic and its in a lot worse shape than what I thought. I plugged it in and it came on for a couple seconds. I pressed the switch and it feels weak or something.... I wiggled it a little and it tried to come on again and I seen a few sparks and something glowing, so I stopped. Im gonna say it needs a new switch. The holder that is spring loaded is bent to where the handle cannot go into the slot. But it seems happy to have found a new home, lol.

She'll be back in business in no time...

You have a lot of good, knowledgeable and resourceful people on here like Lesinutah, texaskirbyguy, bikerray and many others who will help you on your restoration journey. This is a great find! A few months back I *almost* found a Kirby Classic/Omega at a Goodwill, but it was just the floor nozzle and a few tools. It was a small rush of adrenaline for the search of the rest of the vacuum, but it was not to be. Either somebody bought it and forgot/didn't want the floor nozzle and tools (?) or it was never dropped off. There was no Kirby Classic motor unit to be found. Someday, I guess, LOL...

I'm pretty psyched about finishing my D50. I just finished washing the parts, giving it its first polish and installing bearings and motor brushes. I'm going to be giving it a final polish. This is the first vac that I didn't find at a thrift store. I do HVAC and did a service call for this elderly couple's central AC about a month ago. In one of the dark corners of their basement they had a D50 that looked like it hadn't been used in a couple decades as it was getting too clumsy for them to handle. I asked the elderly gentleman what was wrong with it and offered to buy it from him for $50. He told me that it ran fine the last time they used it. He also told me not to bother paying him and said that I could have it. I gave them a couple extra HEPA air filters for their furnace as a thank you.

Hey

I sold you the omega bag. Please realize the cr1-classic is completely different than cb1 Omega. Do not work on them next to each other. I worked on a cr1 cb1 and a tradition. I basically effed all 3 vacuums up. I'm betting the sparking is carbon brushes gone.
I have diagrams for both vacuums.
I have a complete I mean every single attachment for the classic purchased in 1972. The boxes are in mint condition. I have a screw on coil broke off almost impossible to get ioff but maybe this weekend I'll have time.
