Recently acquired a Classic III in mint condition with all original parts, save the brushroll. All I had to do was empty the nearly full shakeout bag, wash it, and put it back together, voila! Wonderful daily driver vac for my business.

I like the convenience of not having to buy paper bags and getting to see the fruits of my labor each time I vacuum when I empty the sani-emptor, but I've noticed that I get dust leakage around the seal. Every time I vacuum there's a light coat of dust around the vinyl bag guard and on the right side of the machine.

Does this mean I need to replace the bag? Would a new bag alleviate this?

Thanks for any advice.

Not at all....

...sorry to disappoint you but this is the nature of the beast!

It may leak a bit more since you washed it. Washing the bag has a tendency to expand the pores of the cloth and naturally will allow more dirt to escape temporarily until the pores (fabric relaxes) "clog" with dirt once again. Only until then will you notice less leakage.

You would have been better off to turn the bag inside out and vacuum it good with another machine. However, it can be a task to gt it back on because of the tension of the spring.

That's the problem with the first-run shake-out bags prior to 1979... when they get porous over the years, the pores get bigger and reduce the ability to trap dust.

One common solution to dust leakage is to replace the old gasket with a new one (part no. 188056). Otherwise, failing that, it's time to replace the shake-out bag with a new one (part no. 190077).

Thanks...

Awesome; thanks for the advice. I will just wipe up the little bit of dust when I'm finished. Small price to pay I think for being able to see all the junk it's picking up and not having to buy bags.

gasket

As someone else remarked, double check that the leak is not coming from the bottom of the sani-emptor where the tray meets the metal casting. That felt gasket needs replacing every so often. It's a very easy job and may take care of this issue once and for all.
