Kirby Shake Out Bags - Replacing the Plastic Scraper in Pocket?

I have read on here that the plastic scrapers that were stitched to the inside of the Kirby shake out cloth bags were known to deteriorate (break down; disintegrate) after a certain amount of years.

Thus, I ask: how would folks like you repair a broken plastic scraper? What kind of good material would you suggest to use in place of the plastic Kirby had originally used?

I wouldn't worry about until yours happens to break. Like all plastic I'm sure it would depend on the conditions they were kept in. My 1CR has one and it's in good shape.

But come to think of it, I've never actually seen any photos of what one happens to look like. To my knowledge it is physically sewn into the bag itself, and it is not replaceable on its own as an individual part, you'd have to change the entire bag to repair it.

The scrapers in my mom's D50 and my Classic Omega are 50 mils thick fiberboard (like super thick cereal box material). Both of ours had started to delaminate some after I had washed them in water.
They are sewn in, but with careful stitch removal, they can be removed and resewn in with a good upholstery needle and thick thread (like for denim or upholstery).

It is possible these came in plastic in later years. If so, I would think a section cut from the bottom of a heavy nursery plant pot could be used as a replacement.

i know what your talking about. If i were to guess what they they were here it is. You know the blue thin totes they sale snap on lids ster lite i believe makes them. It not a thick plastic. That same type of plastic is used on most bags ive came across and ive came across a lot of bags. Its like they used heavy nylon or cloth and sew it onto pocket and its sewn into bag. I have not seen cardboard probably because cardboard would wash away. If you go to home depot they have thin sheets of abs clear plastic. It may cost around $5. You could cut one out. They have an adhesive that is called goo glue. Kent oyler told me about it. It runs about $4 and it adheres to most materials. the inserts are usually white plastic if that means anything.
