I noticed that my 1963 Sanitronic has been skipping 4 to 5 height notches when lowered. When it is on 7 and you click the button once, the nozzle drops down like 4 or 5 notches. Is it a problem with lubrication, are the teeth worn out, or is the spring not long enough ?

First disassemble the front axle assy and thoroughly clean the gear teeth. Also try stretching the spring slightly while you have it apart.

If this doesn't solve the problem, the the teeth are worn out and you need to replace the front axle assy.

Hit it with a hammer!

That's what the local shop instructed me to do when i had that same problem with a Heritage II, over time the stationary toothed area can work loose and cause that slippage, i was told to remove the axle and the spring loaded petal and tap the stationary part with a hammer to tighten it. It worked well for the Heritage II.
