Kirby Nozzle lever on Fan Case

The little spring loaded lever on the fan case, that holds the rug nozzle on.....has anybody had these strip out after removing it?

According to the above link, yes, there have been stories of nozzle lock screws getting stripped during attempts to remove them.

A replacement nozzle lock screw is part no. 1211.

aren't those screws put in there in a way as to make it so u aren't suppose to remove them like they hammered out end of the screw to lock it in the hole so u can't remove it. i removed one once on a heritage 2 fan can and it shredded the hole luckily it was a parts machine so wasn't a huge deal to me.

This should work. Imagine it's a floating bearing. Shove some jb weld onto threads. If you have packed bearings it's same process. If you get enough in and dry a day your set. You should only have to move screw 180 degrees. It should fix without getting new faceplate.

Heli-coil it. Honestly it's such a small bolt hole and it's in aluminum, you really don't even need to predrill before you tap it with the Heli-coil tap. Running the bolt through a die is not strictly necessary if you don't want to shell out the cash for a die. Just make sure the threads are nice and clean, no galled aluminum left on them. A box knife and some patience can cut out any aluminum in the threads.

Kirby nozzle locks are hammered flat from the back, so they won't come out. I had one once that would


not lock properly and Kirby put a new front fan case with nozzle lock on it.


 


If you do replace it don't forget to put sealant around it to seal to the fan case. Needs to be heat 


resistant.
