OK guys... I know my Kirbys but I need some help with this one.....
Can any of the other Kirby gurus...Chad? Jack? Jacob?....tell me about the belt that goes to the Miracle Head, (aka, the floor buffer attachment)?

I recently acquired one that came with the original belt. It seems to be a lighter duty version. It's thinner and slightly narrower, as well. Did this attachment require a different gauge belt? I have always used the regular rug nozzle belt in the past and have had no problems. This original belt also has a smoother texture and is black as opposed to the lighter grey color of the older style "soft" belt.

I've never heard of a different belt being used for the floor polishers. I just looked in a parts diagram I have from Kirby and it looks like the belts have a different part number for the floor nozzle and floor polisher. So I guess its possible it is different. I wonder if you can still buy the floor polisher belt or if they just tell you to use the regular belt now?

Louvac, any Kirby belt will work fine, infact, i prefer the newer knurled (texturized on the inside) belts for all of my Kirby power driven attachments, and rug nozzles.
They are stronger, transmit better power to the attachment, and last longer.
At one time i believe all the Kirby belts were the lighter gray colored belts for al attachments,,,i think evidently it just happened that Kirby was using a lighter colored and textured rubber.

Just Checking Out The Hesco Catalog

They do have a different belt for the Rug Renovator. Not sure what the difference is. They list belts (1989 catalog) for the Heritage II, the 516-Tradition, 505-515 and all Rug Renovators.

Kirby Renovator Belts

I believe the reno belts had string inside( kind of like the belts inside your radial car tires) anyway I think they were designed that way because the renovstor was under a lot of stress when it was shampooing carpets, and they would keep the belt from stretching and slipping when the belt got a little wet from the shampoo!

Kirby Belts w/Strings...

In all my years working w/ & being around Kirbys, I have NEVER seen a Genuine Kirby belt w/strings of any kind in them. (Unless maybe they were some "top-secret prototype" belts, like the "secret Kirby with the '454' motor in it" that is non existant.)

At times Kirby would come out w/ a "new" belt design, testing it if you will, then it would be gone when they decided on a "better" belt.

To clarify some of the other questions/thoughts on the belts currently available:

Part #: 159059 Model: 505-D80 Brush Belt (soft blk)
Part #: 301291 Model: 1CR-G10 Brush Belt (knurled)
Part #: 301289 Model: 516-G10 Polisher Belt (smooth)
Part #: 505058 Model: 519-1HD Handi Butler Belt

Then there are the belts for the Vacuette & transmission drive.

Any belts other than these, are either "old stock" or non-Genuine Kirby.

Dan (thermokid) and Bill (a007kirbyman),

The 301279 belt was the first reinforced smooth textured belt, and that first appeared on the Tradition. When the Heritage I first showed up in late 1981, this particular type belt was also used behind the new Quadra-Sweep brush roll for the upright nozzle.

Then, in mid-'82, the Heritage I rug nozzle switched to a new, dedicated reinforced flat belt (also used on the Comvac CVD1300 and CVD1600) and was used only for that purpose (it was part no. 301282 and marked "Upright Only," whereas the 301279 polisher/renovator belt was marked "Reno Group Only").

When the Generation 3 came out in mid-1990, a new improved flat belt, part no. 301289, was used for both the rug nozzle and Reno Group applications initially, although during 1991, there came the introduction of the new 301291 knurled (inside) belt for use exclusively with the rug nozzle. And it's been that way since.
