kirby lost a wheel!!

Dera fellows,
I'm writing to you because today happened something I'd never expected: I was using of my almost brand new kirby g6 to clean the carpet and suddently the font wheel on the right came out while the Toe Touch control pedal assembly came out from its location making the cleaner unusable and spotting my white carpet with the crease coming out of the fallen pieces. the first thing I did was taking a hummer and push thing back into place but the assembly doesn't remain tight so the kirby continues to lose its fron wheels. I called a friend of mine, a Kirby repair center owner and he said he has to replace the whole weel axle and toe touch control asembly...50 eur for me.
Has anything similar ever happened to any of you?
My mother has been using in her house three kirbies ( one G5 and two G6) and she never had a problem like this. I am quite confused but ...

Wow, weird! I would suggest finding some used parts, on ebay or something.

I saw this thread and had to do a slight hijack to give an "all about me" funny story.

Back in the day I was selling Kirbys. I was giving a demo of the new right out of the box Tradition, which was the first Kirby to use the extra wide wheels on the front and back (with hubcaps).

I was demoing away and was just about to say see how easy the Kirby pushes with the wide track wheels when the front wheel went rolling across the room, as I pulled it back the other wheel went the other direction. So I changed to "Look even without wheels the Kirby still cleans with ease."
I didn't make the sale, and when I took the machine back to our service department he could not figure out why the wheels came off. The owner/distributor ended up keeping that machine for his wife to use at home as he didn't want that to happen to a customer.

Hello Tommy.

This does happen occasionally. If you'll notice the axle is 'splined' externally & the axle 'arm' that the wheel attaches to is 'splined' internally. The 'arm' is pressed onto the axle.

Once it has came apart, it will almost guaranteed come apart again if you attempt to line it up & press it back on. Especially if it is used regularly.

I may do two replacements of them w/in a week, & then go six months to a year or more w/o doing one again. Sometimes things seem to happen in 'bunches.' ~~lol~~

Hello Tommy,
I had the same problem a year or so ago on my Generation 4 and like you mine was the right hand side, I overcome the problem by removing the axle and adding the wheel back on making sure it was aligned properly so the Kirby would be sitting level then drilling a small pilot hole through both section's that had separated and adding a small self tapper screw and this seems to have done the trick but one day I will fork out the money and buy a new axle.
