Hey Guys!
I have a Kirby Heritage 84 (orange bag) model with the "Duckcloth" fill tube. The problem is the adaptor where the bag attaches sits to the left. The seams on the fill tube are left to right and appear to sit correctly in the outer bag. It doesn't appear that the fill tube was ever tampered with so I don't know why it sits facing the handle. Anyone tell me how to correct this because it doesn't seem to want to swivel around as it can't because it's oval. I am confused!

Hmm

Does that tie that holds it onto the tube loosen? If so loosen, swivel, and re-tighten. If not, cut it off, put the tube on correctly, and zip tie it. Later Kirbys used zip ties for this so it won't look too out of place.

The tie that holds the bag adaptor onto the tube is more like a metal clamp. It doesn't appear to have ever been differently positioned.

Unlikely

They put a metal clamp on the fill tube. The metal clamp would be for the cloth material around the bag.
If you loosen the metal clamp on the cloth material . In your left hand hold the tube the right rotate the topper to 6 o'clock or 95 degrees counter clockwise.
I have a american lincoln super sweep. It's the blue commercial kirby that was released in the last few months of ,84. It's an F&G setup on steroids. The bottom had metal clamps but the top has zip ties. I replaced those with hose clamps but my point is the Lincoln is made for commercial use.

Try to rotate the black outlet with one hand while firmly holding the metal clamp and cloth tube with the other hand (slightly damp for extra grip).
You just might be able to do it despite the oval.
You could try this on the bottom side as well before cutting any clamps/ties.

If like one of mine I had restored, the cloth may actually be surplus automotive vinyl upholstery material. The vinyl side would be on the inside. Look for any markings stamped on the outside. Mine had the Chrysler Pentastar logo on it in several places. :o)
