I got a Heritage 2 last week! The lady I got it from told me that it as making a funny noise so she went and bought a new vacuum.. Today I got to tinker with it and clean it up a bit... I took the emptor off the vacuum and found a small nail, bobbie pin and a couple BB's then i put the hose on to see how the air flow was... it was pretty good, so maybe the fan is okay but I haven't got to that yet to see! so after I got an ungodly amount of hair off the brush roll and put it all back together I put the rug nozzle on and turned it on I didn't notice any noise for a few mins but then it started, it didnt sound like a motor noise or bearing just more of a rattle. I turned it off and the wind down of the motor wasn't very long. I lifted the belt and turned it back on... no noise? and the wind down time was longer. Could the brush roll be causing a noise and be putting a stain on the motor?

Sounds like you hit the nail on the head. Bearings are wearing out in the brushroll. New brushroll on ebay is just as cheap as bearings, and will make a world of difference. ^__^

cool! I was hoping to hear that! I am on now comparing prices!

I am trying to upload a couple of pics... My internet is not very good so it takes a while and sometimes a couple of tries...

The height adjuster says Micro Matic on it... Is this an aftermarket part?

The light is a just a pointless light that tells you that the vacuum is on and electricity is running through it. If the safety switch is messed up and the vacuum will not turn on, that light will come on so you know that the vacuum does work.
