Kirby G6 and....

So I spotted this Kirby in a local ad for a garage sale I missed. I contacted them because they wanted $35 for the machine and attachments. I wanted a complete set for the Sentria II I restored recently.

After I got home, I found some extra gifts. Beside a large un-opened bag of... bags, there was a copy of the Sentria Manual and a wand and floor brush that belongs to my Eureka Boss canister. I had been looking for that brush.

All the attachments are soaking now in a large pail of Lysol and warm water. Just to disinfect. They were not obviously dirty, but just being careful.

Have not plugged it in yet, but did carefully pull out a bag so full, it felt like a stuffed sausage casing. Went directly to the outside trash cart.

That was a great deal for the price. G series machines with tools usually go for abount $50 around here in good shape.

It's always been part of my standard operating procedure to ditch the bag as soon as I get it home, regardless of how full it is. I also wipe down the machine's exterior with Lysol wipes. I sometimes also give one a 'UV treatment' by sitting it out on my deck in the sun for a few hours. While the sun will damage plastics over an extended period of time, a day in the sun will them do no harm.

I too, remove used bags out of the machines and take them straight to the outside garbage. I also do the first motor plug in test, outside, downwind and for a little while.

As for cleaning, I use terry rags that have been moistened with a spot of liquid detergent, Lysol concentrate and water. Then wipe down all surfaces and down into any holes I can. I can get the rag into tight spots using a bamboo chopstick to push/guide the rag. I rinse often and reapply the cleaning solution.

In this case, as with others, I wash the bag outside using a hose end sprayer with a soap solution in the reservoir. Soak it down with dial set at soap and switch to rinse. Carefully turning the bag inside out gets any remaining fur/hair/debris out. Then just hang it out to dry. Smells wonderful when dry.
