Hey guys!

I just ordered a Kirby G5 from FastVacs on eBay. I really used it today for the whole house and noticed that when I shut it off, as the motor slows there is a noticeable squeak/squeal. It even happens with the belt in the off position. What is this an indicator of? I just want an idea of what should be replaced before I tear the machine apart. This happened with my old G4 I gave to a friend.

Thanks for the help!!

Sounds like the bearings are drying out and the run-down squeal comes from the old oil glazing on the axle.

Needs a shot of proper machine oil and that should quiet 'er down.

If the motor squeals when running at full speed then you are looking at total bearing replacement.

Don't let a shop talk you into this, try oiling it yourself first. Total tear-down is not necessary to do this, just access to the bearing oil ports.

I've replaced the fan in several and totally took off all metal parts to polish and give like new appearance with new plastic parts. Not hard at all. What kind of oil do I use and how hard is it to access the bearings? Do I need to remove the transmission an the fan or do I need to go deeper. If I have to go deeper I had rather just do a total rebuild so I will have a like new machine.

Thanks

Easy to work on

Look on youtube there are some teardown videos.there is a small flange behind the fan that you can remove and insert some grease in the opening around the shaft and bearing this will solve that problem .

Flange?

I should of said bushing, this has a rubber ring on it that gets dry put a coating of grease on the rubber and also around the little brass ring at the center of the bearing plate and this should fix the noise.

Kirby7 G series

when I have to work on a G series Kirby, after you take the top of the case off, I just pull the motor out of the machine backwards, then you don't have to break the fan case seal....
