Graham, I believe that Kirby keeps records of the machines it sells. If you send in a vacuum and you are not the original owner they will not do the re-build for the listed price. Kirby is happy to re-build your D80, but at a much higher cost than what is listed in the owner's manual that you have. If you check the internet you should be able to find the Customer Service phone number for Kirby and they should be able to give you info on having your machine 'factory re-built'.Justin
