Does anyone know if the motor from a 1CR will fit into the motor housing of a D80?  I want to have some fun and trick out a D80 that I have sitting around, but the commutator is pretty worn on it.  I also have a perfectly good motor from a 1CR that's not being used.  I can completely disassemble the D80 and test it but I thought someone might have an answer before I do that.  I think the field will fit, but I suspect the armature will be too long.

Inquiring minds want to know!  Thanks!

Well, I tore into it, and sadly the 1CR motor won't work.  The armatures are the exact length and the fields are the same diameter.  However, the D80 field has notches in it that allow it slide onto four flanges inside the casting.  That allows the fit to be exact and tight.  The 1CR field lacks those notches!  Darn!

But whoever had this D80 before me must have been a crazy person!  The cord was directly wired into the switch.  Then silicone caulk was applied for insulation.  Plus, the commutator shows far more wear than what I've seen on this model.  It's pretty clear the vacuum was never serviced so it makes me wonder what on earth they were doing with it!
