Hi,

Is it true that although the 515 was the first Kirby to have a redesigned metal fan as opposed to models 505-514, that that fan is incompatible (somewhat) with models 516 to Tradition 3-CB because of certain differences between the motor internals on the older and newer 500s?

Fans...

Hello Ben,

505-515

516-LII

G3-Present

And yes, there are differences, especially with the spacer/washer/fan/pulley combinations (now); & even the original metal fans.

(One time I had a combination that got mixed up [[when we could buy pieces individually]] & was installed--NOT PRETTY!!! Sounded like hellllllp, oops 'heck' as it rubbed inside when put back together.)

Hope this helps.

Ben & Sounds...

Ben,

I think that would depend on each individual's personal interpretation of what they hear.

There were different armatures, fields, as well as other component changes on the various models that would have affected the perceived sound for each person.

I'm no musically gifted person, by any stretch of the imagination; however, that said, there are differences in sound between what is produced by high-end or high-quality equipment & let's say a 'boom-box'. lol Some people pick up the 'highs' better & some the 'lows'; some have a gift for the whole spectrum of sound. much like Charlie I'm sure.

So... (lol) the short version is, to a lot of people they would sound the same; to others, they each have thier own unique sound.

Ben, this may not have answered your question the way you had wished; however, it did help loosen up my fingers this morning. ;-D
