I'm having a good time working on this Kirby 510, and it's coming along nicely. This is the last Kirby I needed to complete my Early 500 series. I now have all the Kirby's from the 505 through the 515. It's great to have a Kirby to work on it's been a while.

like most of these early models the most difficult item to find is the bag. I'll be putting a new black bag on it for now...another work in progress. I'll post pictures when it's done.

Jim,

I always click on your threads for a chance to learn something new and to enjoy the eye candy you produce. So thank you for that. Two simple questions: Do you have all models from the 500 series, whether complete or not? Other than procuring bags, what's been the most difficult task in restoring these machines to their former glory?

...and the second question, lol, do you have an all time hands down favorite? Billy

Ben and Billy

Ben, and Billy,

Thank you so much for the encouraging words! Billy besides the 505 through 515, I also have a 561 but that's it, from the 500 series. I do have a Dual 50 since that was the last one with the tube handle. I'm not really interested in the 516 through 560. I would like to find a 562 with the white cord and gold plugs.

I would have to say the most challenging thing to restoring these machines is finding original parts. Wheels, handle grips, cords, and yes bags. It's always best if you can find one with all it's original parts, but that is getting harder to do as time go's by. The only Kirby in my collection that came complete with all it's original parts is my 561.

I don't really have an all time favorite, but I do have a soft spot for the 561 since my Father worked for Kirby for a short time and this was the first model he sold. He took pictures of me with one, in my grandfathers basement...I loved it.

If your interested I do have pictures of my entire vacuum collection on the collection page.... at the bottom of the page.

thanks again guys!

Jim

Nice

I recently purchased close to all original 510 with the sales receipt. I have been out of town so its sitting idle.
I have a 562 that was the sparkly tan. I purchased a 562 white cord it needs clean but will finish up my 562. Its actually the cord I used to power up the 510. Im attaching a pic of the 510 handle that's s not as nice as yours but its the only 510 original grip i have off of 3 510s.

Im

Going to have to use a torch to heat up the fan on my 510 I got a couple months ago. I can't get my mini ice pick or a Allen wrench with the handle busted off all the way through the hole(I rotate fan and usually the Allen wrench or picks holds it in place.
I torque the hell out of the fan but my ice picks bent and I'm not going to risk breaking everything.
I have the bill of sale for it and the manual. I want to say they paid $123. I'm not positive the exact number but it's in the ballpark.
