Kirby #2??

I hope not to start a scream fest or over the top sales speech, but? My Heritage Legend 2 that I have had a few years, cleaned up and used again, quite recently I really enjoy, when I can push it, and even then its barely touching the carpet. I serviced a G7 for a friend, cleans well, not as fond of it, but I think if I am going to use a Kirby as I get older, we are going to have to go there. Suggestions? I cruise CL all the time, they can come up 100-200 for pretty nice, recent machines. I do use my Silverado for any hose duties, just prefer it. Thanks in advance, David.

And I do have a Royal, just not the same thing. It cleans ok, but doen't lift the carpet off the floor the same way or sound the same, have had Kirbys in the past

Any interest in trading a vintage Kirby of yours?


 


I am currently sanding and polishing a G4.  I've already refinished the armature, checked brushes, installed a new fan, greased front bearing eyelet, installed a new disposable bag fill tube, new filter bag, 2 new belts, all standard accessories, Zippbrush, and complete shampoo system (with a new bottle of shampoo!).  It's turning out quite nice if I do say so myself!

I have a G3 and a Sentria (G10D). The G3 pushes easier than the Sentria and seems to clean just as well even though it has a softer brush roll than the Sentria.


 


I would say any G series machine in good condition will work well for you. If you are getting it off CL then you should probably give it a test drive to determine if the transmission is good and helps your back.

G5 or newer...

I'd say go for a G5 or newer. The differences between the models made in the past 20 years really aren't that significant. That said, the Ultimate G Diamond Edition might have a slight edge over others with its unique two-speed switch. To me, condition would be much more important than a particular model. Have patience and keep looking. A good deal will eventually present itself.

Thanks all, no interest in trading the 1 I have. I recently used a G7 and liked it ok, again much bulkier and heavier than my Legend 2. I had a Gen 3 years back, did not like it, it was jumpy?? jerky?

My bestie's G3 was doing that same thing.  We discovered the TechDrive actuator, which is the base of the handle and the point where the handle spring assembly is attached to the unit, was misaligned.  As it turns out, you can loosen the 2 big screws that attach the handle spring assembly to adjust the TechDrive sensitivity.  A "jumpy" or "jerky" TechDrive indicates it is misaligned at that point.  We simply had to loosen and play around with the proper fastening position and tension.



My G4 has a powerful TechDrive (the G3 and G4 TechDrives seem more powerful than the newer ones) and really moves the unit!  I think this would be ideal for you, Suckolux.  If you'd like to buy, that's an option also.

I actually enjoy a bit slower power drive, my place is small and its not wall to wall carpet, large area rugs, oriental knock offs, so I go slow. The G7 feels about right, does not sound like my old one, weird that, nor does it pull the carpet up off the floor like the Legend 2 does, but seems to clean very well. I know with my back and hip I will not be able to use it, maybe pretty soon! and Faux grandson was promised it when he wants it! I had one similar to that 20 years ago, after the Gen 3, a trade! It had lots of toys and was his favorite toy then? This was bought due to that, I liked how it looked and worked, plus it made him smile. Thanks for the offers there Charles! There have been 2 diamond series here locally in the last month, thought maybe the slower motor speed there might be of help? not even that much money.My best bud's fiance has jumped the fence from Kirby to Dyson, I gave her one a year ago? and she bought a couple more! She has a Sentria that they would prob give me, live down your way, Tracy.

Diamond is cool looking too! Just a few months ago a neighbor down the street, I walk a lot?? had a Purple G for sale for 20, what was I thinking? Guessing that is like a 4 or 5? She only had the machine, but still.POOP

That wine color would make it a G5 and at $20, it would have been quite a good deal. I love that color scheme; I think it's one of the prettiest that a modern Kirby has had. Other than the color and having the earier, boxier emptor like a G3 or G4, it's basically an identical machine to the Gsix and early G7/ultimate G without the two-speed switch; in fact, I've updated my G5 with an Ultimate G outer bag assembly and a Sentria style brush roll. I really wasn't looking to make a customized machine; it was just a matter of price and availability, but I do like the final result.

I really should have asked about it! Older couple, I used to walk with her and her dog sometimes. They had lost their home in the housing crash and were forced to live in this little apt around the corner, lets call it a bad neighborhood? I assumed the thing was broken in some way.
