Kenmore Progressive Glide

I just bought us a Kenmore purple Progressive Glide, and I love it. It cleans well, and doesn't have the bulky attachments on it. I think it's unusual, and worth considering, and well priced too.

Who makes the Glide for Kenmore? First three digits of the model number will tell.

I've got three blue Progressives uprights (Panasonic) from circa 2000; also two later ones made more recently by Phonemate in Hong Kong. One of these two latter machines takes a bag, the other is bagless and I'm still working on it. The parts for the Panasonic-made pieces are expensive, but the Phonemate parts are dirt cheap.

I am quite fond of the blue Progressives made by Panasonic. Of course, Sears has used the Progressive name for some years now on many different machines.

<h5>I got this for $12.50 at a local thrift store.  It was half price day.  Sticker says it needed a belt, but it is a direct drive model.  Only thing wrong with it was the brushroll switch was turned off.</h5>

Progressive Slide

I've had my eye on those since my visit to Dan P. in Des Moines. I tried one in the Sears store there, and fell in love with it! It's like a Progressive power nozzle with a powerful stick vac attached to it. They're on sale here now for 149.99, very good buy IMHO. I'd like to know if it's made by or sold under the Panasonic name as well. Joe, you got a good buy on that full size upright. I have always heard they are a very decent cleaner. Gary, was suprised to see that Phonemate makes vacuums. Think they're connected to the original phone answering machine company?

Progressive Glide

saw it advertised in a sears ad, and had to check it out. Being a hard body machine it seems a little more heavy than an like an oreck or tacony lightweight, it had a dirt sensor light on the powerhead, it seemed to do pretty well on the rugs they had.

Very Nice Ratings for this vac in Consumer Reports

The Kenmore Glide has received very good ratings from the Consumer Reports test labs. If you have another vac for above-the-floor cleaning, this is a very nice, lightweight upright that does remarkably well on floors and medium-pile carpets. Not so great for pet-hair removal though. Here are the scores:

Medium Pile Carpet Cleaning = very good
Bare Floor Cleaning = excellent
Noise Level = good
Emission Control = excellent
Handling (pushing, pulling, carrying) = very good
Pet Hair Removal = fair

It has a brush on/off switch, Hepa filtration, manual pile height adjustment and weighs only 13 pounds. And best of all: there are no cumbersome attachments, wands and hoses sticking out from the body!

This would make a great upright companion to a canister vac that does your above the floor cleaning!

The 116 prefix on the model number indicates manufacture by Panasonic.

The newer Progressives made by Phonemate I believe are made by the same company that makes answering machines, etc. If a company can mold plastics and make electronics for anwering machines, they can make vacs I guess. "Made in Hong Kong" means "Made in China."

The Panasonic-made Kenmore Progressives have "nicer" plastic, if there is such a thing. It is marked ABS, and therefore made to a specific formula. The plastic used on so many Chinese machines could be anything and looks cheaper.

I have been on the look-out for one of those Panasonic-made Progressives with direct drive, but so far haven't been able to connect. Time is on my side.

I appreciate all the info. I like this vacuum as it cleans well, and is made so nicely for a relatively inexpensive unit. Kenmore is great, especially since they contract with Panasonic. Ron
