I took a walk through Goodwill this evening, and managed to keep my 'sobriety', despite seeing a couple of moderately interesting machines. The easiest to walk away from was a Kirby Gsix with its tool kit for $40. It was in decent shape, but I've got four of them, so there was simply no way, rational or otherwise, to justify another one. I've simply reached a saturation point on that particular model, and it was offering me absolutely nothing I didn't already have.

Of greater interest was a Regina floor scrubber, almost identical to one we had when I was a kid. I remember being fascinated by the thing, primarily because we never used it. We finally sold it at a yard sale. I seriously considered it--for about a minute and a half--but even at a relatively modest $15, I just couldn't justify it for how much I wouldn't be using it.

As much as I relish the thrill of acquisition, I am also enjoying my newfound ability to walk away from stuff I don't need. It's quite liberating.

I had yet another challenge to my sobriety yesterday, when I walked through a Goodwill store and saw a Dirt Devil Broomvac, first one I'd ever seen in the flesh. For better or worse, the condition was a little low and the price was a little high, so I let it sit.

That's one of the ones that caused me to fall off the wagon, maybe a year or two ago. I had never seen one in the flesh either. But, this one was priced low enough that I couldn't resist.
If I were the handy type, and was willing to open up the housing, I bet it could use a good cleaning inside. But, I took care of the outside, which now looks great, washed the bag, and put a new disposable bag in it. The previous owner had used it without disposable bags, so the cloth bag was a mess.
There hasn't been anything locally to tempt me for a little while now. Plus, I'm trying to hold out for a vintage Electrolux. It could be a long wait!
