VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

A new Bissell Easy Vac that I got at Wally-World today for $15. I figured what the heck and bought it, I'll prolly end up giving it to one of my friends who lives down at the college... their rooms are always in need of a good vacuuming!

And the Elite 300... come to think of it, that has a 430 motor in it, I remember when I was about 7 years old, I swapped motors because I liked the 430 better with all the tools but the 300 motor was quieter!

Source of the new Hoover WindTunnel canister

Hey there Rich,

You probably know this already, but your Hoover bagged canister has its roots in the German division of Dirt Devil, believe it or not. That's why it looks so much like a Miele. When TechTronic Industries bought Hoover, they already owned Royal and Dirt Devil worldwide. So it was easy for them to marry a German Dirt Devil canister to a Hoover WindTunnel power nozzle and sell it under the Hoover name in North America. See the link below for the Dirt Devil suction only version in Europe - it's called the Allegra.

Just FYI, Consumer Reports gave this Hoover a very good rating, and is listed not only as a "Recommended" vac, but also as a Best Buy - meaning the price is very good for what you get. Their testing showed that it is "excellent" in bare floor cleaning and limiting emissions. It is "very good" at cleaning carpet and pet hair. Airflow through the hose for tool use is also "very good." However it only rated a "good" for noise level, and only rated "fair" for "handling." The top-rated Kenmore Intuition, and the Electrolux Oxygen are better at "handling." So is the Kenmore Progressive you already have.

Enjoy your Hoovie!

Kirbyvacuum, the suction is okay, not the best, but not the worst. I pulled it apart and sealed the motor compartment and noticed a definite increase in suction. I also put on of those cut-to-size motor filters in the bag compartment to help "filtration" and it seems to do an okay job. Kinda wish it had a turbo nozzle instead of the thing it has now but wishers can't be beggars or whatever! Great for bare-floor cleaning.

Right now I do not have any Kirby's, I've worked on a couple and can honestly say they're not my type... but they're still great vacs!

Kenmore81, it's actually the 300 but I have no clue what the difference is! That thing has been through many wars with our cleaning ladies but it's still going strong, no parts have had to be replaced, the brush roll is still the original single-row brush row with nice red bristles... I need a new motor bracket to hold it on to the baseplate, but luckily it's not on the side that connects to the suction tunnel thing.
