Hi,

I think it's to be believed Royal uprights had had two different impeller fan designs for its motors, as with Kirby. Correct?

Many of the Royal all-metal uprights had six-blade impeller fans while all the later ones used ten-blade impeller fans. So, what year did Royal begin using the ten-blade metal fan on its metal uprights?

Fans

Hey Ben, did you know that some of the earliest Royals had 5 blade fans? Think they switched to 6 blade after WWII, but there MIGHT have been a few pre-war machines with 6 blade fans. Not sure just when they switched to ten blade.

Yes it's true. My 2002 Royal Classic has a 10 blade fan and could suck the chrome off a car. I do want to sell it if anyone is interested BTW.

There's Nine Blades, Not Ten

Hi,

I must correct myself to say that what I thought as ten-bladed fans for the Royals are actually nine-bladed. And yes, the six-bladed fan would actually be five-bladed.

There had been other nine-bladed fans, too. The current one is part #608005, with a slip-fit design. The other nine-bladed fan is part #620004, which is threaded.

I believe the five-bladers are part #s 608004 (for large 8mm motor shaft) and 53004 (for small shaft, used on very old Royal uprights). Both have short hubs.

But ... is it true that part #608005 can be used in place of number #608004 as long as I pay attention to the shaft diameter?
