Interstate Compact C4 impeller

My grandparents own a Interstate C4 with a broken impeller. I am in need of information about how this thing mounts to the motor (my Grandfather is 90 and took it apart but doesn't remember the orientation of the impellers.

I would like to buy a used impeller possibly from a bad motor.

If not I intend to braze (solder) the original back together, but I still need to know how the thing is oriented (which way the turbines are to rotate) and if the two impellers are offset or the turbines are aligned.

That is a

Standard Lamb motor, a 4450 or 4750, in either case, the fans are the same, this is an easy fix.

You cant braze or solder the fans back together, they will be so out of balance the machine will vibrate like crazy. Just Google a Lamb motor # 115750 and see what fans they take, you should be able to find an exploded view of this motor somewhere on the internet. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies! I finally found a parts list with no diagram. I found what appears to be the part, but I am still unable to find an exploded diagram. Do one of you have access to a diagram? Like I previously stated, I didn't take the thing apart, and I am not sure what direction the things should face.

I've never disassembled a Lamb Motor, but in other similar motors, it usually goes like this for reassembly:

Bearing plate
spacer of some sort
flat washer
FAN 1 - flat side of fan facing down
flat washer
stationary fan stage
I shaped spacer
flat washer
FAN 2 - flat side of fan facing down
flat washer
nut to hold it together (nut is inside the open circle on the top of the fan)

I know a photo would be better -- I'll look to see if I can dig anything up to illustrate my description above.

Good information above.Additional hint on washers is that when they are stamped they can have a 'smooth' & 'sharp' edge.Run your finger across edge to see difference.Any fan can develop cracks such as yours has with use and age but if reinstalled with 'smooth' edge touching fan it will last longer.Remember that the opening of fan faces bag area to pull air through.(On some Electrolux it is possible to turn one fan backwards and have everything fit but not function properly.)Safety hint-When holding fan and turning nut cover edges with shop towlel or rag to protect hands as it can be SHARP.-- As above this is fairly simple repair with common parts.Good luck,Happy vacuuming.

Help! Can I fix this old motor?

This is my quoted email to HESCO, they're listed as a distributor for Ametek FSM:

"I have an old vacuum motor marked Lamb manufacturing IS 114750 I need rebuild parts and diagram or a replacement motor. I think this is an obsolete part number but I am not sure the new number. The fans have been destroyed, I believe as a result of bearing failures. Can you help with any of this?"

RESPONSE:

"Per Ametek/Lamb the motor you are requesting parts for is obsolete & so are the parts for it. There is no replacement. Sorry."

I took the motor apart to find a THIRD fan that my grampa didn't take out.

I would like to make a good documentation of this rebuild via photos and post this to the site somehow to help others in the future... although I am not sure the best way to do this other than a forum post...

What causes all three fans to come apart like that? Is there something else I need to replace while I have this thing apart?

I don't know that LAMB motor parts are available on an individual basis.  I just rebuilt one and it was a pain... I'll likely just buy a new motor next time. You may just want to replace the motor... they're all over eBay:

There are

MILLIONS of Lamb motors around, if you cant find parts, dont despair, im sure some of us have a spare motor, since we moved my parts are still boxed up, but dont give up yet..

There might be another motor that'll fit - someone who knows Compact/Tristar better than I would know better, though. However, is the mount right to take the same motor as the Tristar CXL or Compact C9? If so, that motor is still in production.

Just about

ANY twin fan lamb motor will fit, some of the newer motors used in Kenmores are too big, but Eureka/FilterQueen/AirWay all used Lamb two stage motors.
