So..this is my mums Singer Melodie 40 sewing machine and we both have no info on it. (Well, apart from the fact she bought it a very long time ago :P)

What I would like to know is ~

When was it released?

What were the other models?

Is this BOT, MOL or TOL?

And how much it would of retailed for.

And anything else anyone cares to share as I'm always interested in old sewing machines :)

Huge thank you in advance to anyone who can shed light on this little (well big!) gem!

Oh also ~ Ignore the random fabric that's being used,I was testing the tension :P

I had a TOL Singer here of about that age, it was not a good design by them, had an air hose/ pump style foot control for speed, oh my! Second time for repair I traded it for an older more basic style, only do minor repairs here anyway.

As they say----Google it!!You may find an owners-operators manual there.Has the machine been internally cleaned and lubed??That could solve future problems.A Sew&Vac place can help here.Worth the money-I had a yard sale Singer 500 series "Rocket" machine checked out by the Sew&Vac place--works like a champ!I have helpted him clean and lube, adjust machines. Its a skill and an art.Learned a couple things on the way!

I do have the owners manual luckily 😃 I did oil it a few days ago. Unfortunately there's no repair places left in Derby anymore.

If the machine sews OK and you can adjust tensions-than it must be OK.The bobbin area can collect a lot of lint-you can clean that out yourself. The lint can cause the machine not to sew right.Sews OK-with a straight stitch or any of the others-they look identical on both sides of the fabric. If the machine sews like that--LEAVE THE ADJUSTMENTS alone!

Singer repair shop

Of possible interest to Vacuumlover, there is still a Singer dealer/repairer right on the Eastern edge of Stoke-on-Trent at Longton. Excellent service, and in-depth knowledge. 2 mins off A50.

I'll try to find full name, address, and telephone number. I doubt he does Email ;-)
All best
