Looking to replace my Kirby Ultimate Diamond Edition for something with a LOT less dead weight. Im looking at the Hoover Air. but debating whether to get it.

Aerus makes much better product! Will last twenty years and performs well, try one before you jump to Hoover !

I think panasonic's are good.

I am selling a like new panisonic upright in my eBay store with a metal brush roll and bottom plate that is light but powerfull.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310588632009&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

<span style="font-family: verdana, geneva;">Welcome to VacuumLand, filterboy244!  You're not too far from Bowling Green; where I used to live; but I still own a house there (now my summer vacation home)</span>

Keep the Kirby!

The Ultimate Diamond Edition is one of the best models Kirby has ever produced. If you want a Hoover, I'd recommend the Platinum Lightweight. It has got a direct air fan system and is rated very highly. Use the Hoover for everyday tasks, and the Kirby for a weekly deep clean.

filterboy244,
If I were you, I would keep the Kirby Diamond Edition and use it once a week for deep cleaning and I would buy the Hoover WindTunnel Anniversary Edition bagged non-self propelled upright vacuum for everyday cleaning. I hope this helps.

Wow, too much info to absorb!

Hi Filteboy244.

It looks like you've been given TONS of links and info to about the half the market of current new vacuums. Hoover makes quite a variety of machines from low budget to medium budget rank and designed for households consisting of all carpets to a complete mixture.

The perfect machine is the one that fits your needs for mixture of surfaces whether its throw rugs, tile, wall to wall carpet etc. I myself am a power head canister fan. My house is cleanest with that vac and easiest for me to use. They handle under the bed, under low lying furniture, easy to manuever and of course are a god send for hard surface floors and stairs.

I am not a Kirby fan. I've used a few and yes they clean well but its just not my style machine. I prefer a manual push machine and not a self propel that will slam my elbow into open doors, filing cabinets and the like. I prefer to not have to bend down to slide an arm in-order to lock the handle so that I can recline back the whole unit and roll easily across a room or threshold. I've also found MANY a machine to clean carpets to my liking that do not bear a Kirby logo with the weight. I'm not bashing, just stating my opinion as a user of many a machine and cleaning houses professionally for 18 years.

If you want a classic styled Hoover you might try a Hoover Professional. Extremely similar design of previous Hoover Decade 800 models. At $139 new its a fantastic cleaner at bargain price and energy efficient. Remember a 12AMp machine has nothing to do with cleaning performance, its just amount of electric current consumed. Cleaning performance is agitator design, agitator performance and airflow. Here's a link for Hoover Professional series: http://www.abcvacuumwarehouse.com/hoover-ch50000-professional-commercial-upright-vacuum-1.html

The Hoover Windtunnel Air is liked by many, Consumer Reports in its latest issue however didn't mark it as well though. To me its a very lightweight styled wierd looking thing with odd positioned hose. I'm not into the bagless market either.

The Hoover Windtunnel T bagged uprights and SurfaceMax bagged are a good line with good agitation, good airflow, reasonable durability, on/off brush roll control, easy bag disposal. Here's a link to one: at $139 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Hoover+...Blue/9960507.p?id=1218202033595&skuId=9960507

If you go canister you may want to test drive a Panasonic MC-CG902. Reasonable durability, full size, large bags, reliable design, powerful, recommended by Consumer Reports less than $200 and full size onboard tool set. Capable of fitting PowerMate Jr. or turbo powered hand tool as well. Here's a link: http://www.vcdiscounter.com/mccg902.html

An upgrade version to the Hoover Windtunnel Anniversary bagged canister is this Royal Lexon SR30020 canister. Very nice units with much better hose, handle, and power head over the Hoover one. Hoover will have one like this soon and Hoover does have bagless power head canisters with a similar designed power head to this as well. Below is a link for a youtube video that has an EXCELLENT description to the capabilities of this unit.

Before buying anything I would absolutely recommend a trip to your local vacuum shop. Try before you buy and get their opinion for a recommended machine. But use your own judgement to decipher what they tell you. Many vac shops are very legitimate but with any sales business you have to look past their sales spew a little too. Many vac shops offer a great selection of refurbished machines for sale as well. Refurbs sold at a vacuum store have a warranty. You can play with the machines and get an idea of what cleans well while checking agitator design, ease of bag changing, how many filters there are and how often they need replacement and what those costs are. What the belt design is and if its a lifetime belt. Weight, color, attachments, noise, edge cleaning, durability are all great things to check out.

Best of luck and really interested in your feed back from all of this!

God bless and enjoy rest of the weekend.
