I'm in The HOLY Land!!

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

Tonight is HOOVER 'clinic' time.

Tom is taking me through a restoration, step by step. I've seen it done so many times, both here and at home. I'll be studying under a pro. It's like Julia Child or Martha Stewart teaching you how to cook!
And, yes, I brought 'edible' treats with me: home made zucchini bread, homemade spaghetti sauce..all nice and fresh. I hope you'll enjoy my photos and careful details of my trip.

Hi John.

These pictures bring back a flood of happy memories. I remember that kitchen, Stacy Krammes had a pot of coffee for me when I got there. That trip was not like any other museum, while it's true that up to that point, Hoovers were not my cup of tea, but because one of the Hoover sons went to Choate, there were a number of discarded Hoovers like the ones pictured below, in the store rooms I used to play in. Suddenly I was in the birthplace of them. As for Stacy, she was like a favorite aunt who was letting me see her treasures. Then, when John Lucia and I were there together, she made us feel welcome.

As I 've often said, our first outside meeting was to the Hoover company. Weeks before I drafted an 'Outstanding Achievment Award, and John Lucia presented it to her. Her words were "I don't deserve this, I didn't do anything!' But she did, she not only provided us with the early membership, but put us in touch with her daughter Liz, who was then studying to be a graphic artist. It was Liz who designed our first logo, letterhead, and of course the design for the club sheet cake.

If you can find anything on Stacy, please share it with us.

Have a great time, and let me know if the Whirlwind is still there.

ducks and runs

Morgan, may I call you Morgan??

My GPS led me to exactly the right place. I ALWAYS make a pilgrimage here at least once a year. This year, I was here at Christmas, for museum fun, AND the be at the bag plant again for one last time. They took my advice: the LAST bag is here and, was signed by ALL of the bag plant employees. It was sad and happy at the same time. I saw it here today, (took pics) and I remembered it all so very well.
Thank you for thinking I was ill....well.. lol.
Tues pm my uncle (had a 69) was hospitalized...heart trouble, again. He's gonna be ok, and I was assured that it was ok to continue with my trip. My family has been known to have ;problems'. Thankfully, I've left all my troubles, worries, etc back in Pennsylvania. No nasty calls, comments, (well, they'll come, I'm sure) but....it IS a RETREAT for me here.
talk soon,
John Now, about that "Kirby" thing. hm.................... no kidney for YOU!

Stacy was in shock!

You can see it on her face, never in her life did she expect this kind of recognition. You can read her thank you letter to us, because we published it in the next newsletter. Here it is.

Stacy did deserve that award!

In many ways she was our first 'den mother' though neither John Lucia or I ever called her that. Because of her interest in my 'hobby' all sorts of doors opened for me. Till then, everybody other than family and a few close friends thought I was crazy. And yes, I was working for Kirby at the time. But even my manager thought that collecting vacuum cleaners was a bit odd!

Stacy worked her magic on John too, forwarding his letter of inquiry on models 150 and 700 to me, and thus opening another door. So, for me, the Hoover Historical Center will always be the birthplace of the V.C.C.C..

Well, today was a great day too!!

Today, we went to numerous estate sales, garage sales, yard sales, oh my!!
First, a trip to Morrison's Vac Shop proved beneficial. We got some nice attachments, (vault stamped), scent materials, bags, etc. At one estate sale, we saw a Kirby, Regina, and a poor Convertible (the condiment ketchup, model u4061) It saw a very rough life. Another very odd home sported a power drive Dial A Matic, and, I spotted hoover tools 1031 under tarp. I picked up a helpmate, bags, tools, etc today. Tom got a HOOVER Brush vac for The Historical Center. As we were leaving, the man said, "There's another one over there. Do you need a Dirt Devil? Tom nearly fainted as I pointed to my HOOVER shirt. I replied, "Are you kidding me"? Have you SEEN our shirts"? Of course, we were both wearing HOOVER 'garb'. Photos of that to follow. One Salvation Army store had a Eureeeka green "rotomatic"...seemed to be excellent condition for whopping $5.00. WE saw a Kenmore cleaner in a home alongside a commode. "Location, location, location".
I almost had to lie down a few times.
Back home, I curled up with a 'good book', "Fabulous Dustpan". Don't you love the 'lamp'?

Memories

You mentioned a Man Named Tom...

That wouldn't by any chance be Tom Anderson would it?

I went down to the Museum when I was something like 7 I think...
