I wonder who the lucky winner of this glorious behemoth was...

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

I'm somewhat supprised it did not pass the $1000 mark. I thought if anything would it would be this.

Now we probably have to sit through a few weeks of people listing their half ruined model 700s with $500 starting bids. Thats the problem with items like these. Everyone now thinks their old hoover is worth this much.

Not true

look again. There are 700s and 800s all over ebay right now. For less than $100.

We almost bid on that 825, but it reached $100, and we backed down. Glad I did.

Oh wait?

Did you win it?

Vintage hoover- you have some sweet vacuums, as I presume that you are the "vintagehoover" youtube user!? If so, I was wondering if you would be interested in selling one of your vacs

Brandon, if you mean me, I didn't win that one, I wasn't a bidder - I already have a UK Model 925, thank goodness, serial #925600.

Hoover made 8,935 of them in the US (less than the Hoover Duster!). I don't know how many were made in the UK, but it would have been considerably fewer. We didn't have the Aromador, or the 'Radio Interference Eliminator' - but mine has the (presumably optional) double cord hooks to hold a double-length cord.

I am 'vintagehoover' on YouTube - thank you for the compliment, I'm glad you like my cleaners :)

In answer to your question, I'm afraid none of my cleaners are up for sale, for any price. I'm sure it would be going to an excellent home, but my cleaners make up part of a collection which I'd hate to split up for sentimental reasons. The cost of shipping one over to you in America would be considerable too, and you'd have to get a 240v set-up installed, or buy some sort of step-up transformer, to run a UK machine.

Keep an eye on eBay, that's where almost all of mine have come from, and you may well find what you're looking for. For instance, my US Model 300 cost me $10, plus $30 transatlantic shipping, and with a little TLC, it's turned into a very nice cleaner!

BTW, what Erick meant about the prices of old Hoover models was not that examples on eBay are currently starting at $500, but that the sale of the 925 would set a precedent for future sellers, who will fail to distinguish between a rare and well-preserved model, and some junky 750 they're excavated from the basement!

Amazing work Jack!!!!

You really know your stuff, and your restorations are magnificent! Keep up the great work

Rick

Just beautiful

Your hoovers are absolutly first rate. Truly magnificent machines right there!

I have to ask- what are the 3 models in the 2nd picture above? I am guessing- Hoover 900-925-950?

See the thing is, I have seen these all over ebay, but none with the original bag. How did you find those?

I think I might jump on that 800 on ebay...

Rick - thank you so much! Praise indeed, coming from THE master of vacuum restoration! :)

These models just aren't common enough over here for me to say, 'well, I'll just wait for a nice one to turn up...', I'd be waiting a LONG time! So I have to do the best with what I have.

Brandon - the ones in the picture of 3 are the 450, 800 and 925, ie. the Popular-Priced model, the De Luxe model, and the Commercial model from that particular line-up. In the UK, we also had an entry-level model, the Junior 370.

Those bags aren't actually truly original; they were made in large quantities in the 1930s by Hoover as replacements for the originals. You rarely ever see factory-original bags over here - I have 2 factory-originals for my 475, and one for my 375. There's also one on my Hoover Minor 200B. I think that's all!

The replacements which are on the cleaners are hard enough to find, most were replaced with horrible grey ones in the 1960s. I have enough for all my cleaners, plus a few spares. The commercial replacement bags have gold print, rather than ivory-white. Most of mine have come from scrap machines - for many of the machines in my collection, I've had about 2 or 3 of the same model to borrow parts from! Great for spare bags, 2-speed switches, Agitators etc.

This is my Model 900, it's the commercial model which came before the 925. In terms of production figures, it's actually rarer than the 925 - Hoover made 7,654 of them in the US. The US version had the Hoover Hed Lite. We didn't get that luxury! The American version had at least 3 different bag design changes during production...

Brandon - the 800 is my absolute favourite Hoover of all time, lol. Beautiful, and a wonderful cleaner as well.

In this pic, the 700 and 800 are mine - the other two belong to another collector:

That's not too bad! The metal's dulled but not corroded, it should polish up nicely with a little effort. And anyway, once you have the basic machine, you can look around for parts to go on it - people here may be able to help. I'm still looking for plenty of stuff to go with my cleaners.

thanks vintagehoover

thanks as always, and to everyone else. This forum is always friendly and very helpful.

bag

So how would I be able to come across a replacement black bag if I win that 800 on ebay? it has that ugly brown one. :(

AGH!!

we cant seem to stay on top of all the bids. We got out bid 2x in like 3 minutes!!!

Looks like I am not going to win this one. :(
