I need to know this, What are the dimensions of a Kirby Handi-Butler belt? ( models after 511)

My Handi Butler is a model 2581HB, for the Heritage 1. Removing the belt and squeezing it flat, each side is 5 inches (125mm) , so the circumference is a little over 10 inches (250mm). It is 15mm wide and 3mm thick (like the standard head drivebelts) These belts don't seem to be available on this side of the pond either, so I'd better look after mine

Actually, they changed the belt (and its associated device) midway into the 518 run. Prior to mid-1958 the belt to be used was part #1590 (same soft belt as used for the upright brush on models 505-515), but with the new "Mark II" design a dedicated belt, part #405058, was to be used.

BELT USAGE

Mark I Handi-Butler (models 510 to early 518): part no. 1590 (NLA, use part no. 159056)

Mark II Handi-Butler (later model 518 to 561): part no. 405058 (NLA)

Mark III Handi-Butler (562 Sanitronic to Dual Sanitronic 80): part no. 405058 (NLA)

Mark IV Handi-Butler (Classic, Classic Omega): part no. 405058 (NLA)

Mark V Handi-Butler (Classic III, Tradition, Heritage): part no. 405058 (NLA)

Why don't you use a knurled belt? I did on my Classic III handi butler. We used the jig saw on some wood that we used for baseboards and it works like a charm. I polish some of the vacs in the museum with the Handi butler as well. A knurled belt turns it just fine.

If you have trouble finding one---

you could always try a used (not overused) regular Kirby belt. It would be easier to install. It should not have any cracks in it.

RE: Oreck belts...

Oreck XL Vacuum Belts Part# 0300-604 (Genuine Oreck Brand)

@ David; I found this available to order. Is this similar to what you used, I imagine there's more then 1 model or part #.

I also used a slightly stretched worn belt off a rug renovator for the Mark II. Little snug but worked. I also need a back up for my Mark III & Heritage 1-HD & Tradition

Thankx in advance,

Kristopher
