So despite trying to "keep the numbers in check" i picked up another one....this time a....DYSON, a DC-65 actually, which i've sorta been looking for.

I gave it a run in it's as is condition to get a feel for it, it seems to work alright. Now the filters and cyclone assembly are drying after a fairly thorough washing so i'll definitely be trying it out a bit more in the next few days.

I had a DC40 and it was mediocre at best, I traded it in for a DC65 and I love it! The DC65 has big time suction and it deep cleans very well.

Wow, the DC17 is something I would like to try out. People say that the ball ones are better, some say the DC17 is the best hands down, I want to try one for myself to see what it's like for me. I like the DC65 though, it has beaters so should do a better job probably. Are the bristles stiff like the DC17? The DC65 has one row so Im assuming it has really stiff bristles

I'll check

The brushes when I get home. I prefer the 65 to the 17, as I felt the 17s brushes were too stiff they were painful to the touch while in operation. The 65 seems to have more "bouncing agitation" than the 17 did despite it having softer brushes I think this is due to the new sole plate. The airflow is similar to the 17 though both of them managed about a 1.5 on the baird guage.

Ohh OK, I think I will like both then xD DC25 bristles are like painful to touch when switched on xD

Really?

I don't have much experience with the 25 from the occasional looking at in the trade in piles but i don't recall their brushes being nearly as sharp feeling as the 17.

The brushes on the 17 were why i really didn't like to use it. I felt that brushes as stiff as they were probably damage carpet fibers, and after it ripped a line out of the flat pile carpeting it was seldom used until i sold it off to a pawn shop.

You are correct about the brushes though the 65 does have one row, i thought it may have a 2nd but it does not.

Yep, the DC25 does have stiff bristles but they are not the stiffest, they do a good job on carpets, a good machine.
