So I was driving to work this morning and I spied a vintage Kirby out on the curb by a garbage cart. I'm not sure what model it was, perhaps a Classic. I only caught a glimpse of it as I passed by at 40 mph. I really wanted to rescue it but traffic was too heavy and I needed to get to work. I tried to justify it to myself by saying that it had been rained on during the night and I already have too many vacuum cleaners at the house, plus I've spent the past several months cramming every spare inch of space in my house and outbuilding with as much of my dad's antique toy collection as I can take, which I'm now in the process of selling online. When I drove home for lunch, the vacuum was gone and the garbage cart's lid was open, which generally means the truck has been by to empty it. I hope somebody else rescued it, but the bottom line is you just can't save 'em all.

Curbed Kirbys don't stay there long-I tried to grab one while riding home from work on a bus.By the time I got to the place where it was--attachments,too-they were gone.Vacuum guys aren't the only ones that try to grab abandoned Kirbys--scrappers love them too,for the metal. We just hope they went to a new home and get used.-2nd life.I did rescue a curbed Royal-fixed it up and sold it.Needed a roller brush, outer bag,and belt.

Sadly, scrappers DO get them.

"Into the crusher they go", say some. It's a shame. Those Kirbys cost so much, it's sad to see them end up like so many others. Perhaps the people should visit the crusher..... or not be so unkind.
Hopefully, that vacuum is getting a new life, AS a vacuum.

On my way to college I spotted a Kirby G4...

It was an 80th anniversary edition complete with the tools. It was at the curb about a half a mile away from my house. We had enough room and time to pick it up but we didn't. Lesson learned.
