How to replace a Eureka bulb?

I picked up a vintage (early 90's?) Beaumark (Eureka F&G)upright. It looks just like a common Eureka that they made for so long. My question is, how do you get to the bulb? There seems to be a hexagon nut around the power button. Do I remove it and lift the hood up? Or do you access it from the bottom?

Excellent find...those Eureka 1400-series uprights (which is what this one is) are great machines. Lightweight, but also good cleaners.

I'm wondering what type of hood this machine has. If the hood is metal (which most 3.5-amp machines with the round footswitch have), and the headlight housing extends out from the hood, as shown here, you don't even need to remove the hood. There are two indentations on each side that you can insert a flathead screwdriver in to pop the housing out. After you change the bulb, just snap it back in!

However, removing the hood itself isn't difficult either. Just remove the Torx screw in the middle of the Dial-A-Nap knob, and undo the two spring clips on the underside. I don't think you'll even have to undo the nut around the switch this time; the wiring will probably give you enough slack to lift the hood up and change the bulb.

Yes, this machine wasn't exactly pretty when I got it, as seen here. I did remove the excessive scuffing on the base with Mother's mag wheel polish since this was taken. At the mini-meet last October, David pointed out a broken fan blade as the cause of excessive vibration, so I will be ordering a new fan as well as some other parts to make this machine run and look like new again.

Thanks! Yeah that looks just like it! I will try the flat head screw in the indents. Mine has 4 levels. What type of bulb? Bayonet or screw in?

It's a bayonet bulb...the 15-watt "appliance bulbs" that you can find at the hardware store work perfectly.
