How do I remove the motor on a Hoover model 28?

I was using a service manual to help me rebuild my Hoover model 28 and to remove the motor it says to remove the screws and lift it out of the housing. It also says to remove the gasket. I removed the only four screws I could see but the motor was in there as solid as it was before. I am not sure if the gasket has rotted away and caused the motor to stick to the housing or their are just more screws. I also want a link to a set of carbon brushes that will fit my Hoover. I removed one carbon brush and the number on it said K5 but I am not sure if that is a model number.

(Please don't make fun of me because this is my first time rebuilding a Hoover motor.)

You'll need a butter knife. Once the screws that hold the motor down are out, use the flat butter knife between the bakelite motor housing and the magnesium frame, tap with hammer, and you should be able to pop the motor from the frame without damaging the bakelite.

By the way, love your profile picture - those are MY Electrolux cleaners and I remember the day I took that picture at the Vacuum Cleaner Museum. Glad you also like Lux.

I didn't know that was your picture. I really like the Electrolux model G and wanted a picture of the front of one and this was the only suitable I could find. At the time, my Electrolux model G was long gone as I gave it to my local vacuum store for parts because the motor burned out. I will change my profile picture to an image of my all original Kirby Classic Omega. Also, do you know what type of carbon brush would fit my Hoover model 28?
