Hoover Video

I finally got around to making a video of my Hoover Guardsman C1631 that I got brand new back in June.
Gotta love the sound of the motor starting up!

I wouldn't have it sound any other way. The whole tone of the motor is very pleasing to the ear and anything but painful to listen to, unlike vacuums like the Windtunnel which will deafen you.

The Guardsmans looks and sounds good... very nice in black... seems like it would compliment a Eureka 1934A nicely. Was the belt old/stretched on the Sanitaire?

I haven't changed the belt in the Sanitaire in probably nearly a year. It probably needs it but I'm seeing how long I can make this one last. Those belts seem to stretch out and weaken almost right after putting a new one in and I could be replacing them every week if I were fussy about it.

You're right about that... My Eurekas/Sanitaires do the same thing... it's like they last a week.... totally ridiculous!

My sanitaires belt after it's a little worn and I start it up cold will slip until enough friction has warmed it up and made it more "sticky" my S634 doesn't do that though. The Hoover's belt is pretty good about not wearing out too quickly, I think I changed it once since getting it.

I love your Guardsman, but that poor Sanitaire sounds like it really needs a new belt. When I was little we had a Eureka Express canister and I only remember my mother changing the belt once. After that we had several Electrolux machines, which never require you to change the belt. However after having several Kirbys I change the belt in them religiously ever 6 months. When I change the belt I put the 6 month mark on the calendar in my BlackBerry so I make sure to change it. My Diamond and Ultimate G have belts that should last a lot longer than a Sanitaire or Convertible style Hoover belt, but the minimal cost is far outweighed by the better preformace. My suggestion is to buy the largest pack of Sanitaire belts you can find and change it every few months. Its a wonderful vacuum that you have, and a new belt should keep it cleaning at its best. I know those machines are a real beast and can out clean and out last many others on the market today.

This belt hasn't shown any slipping besides in the video, for some reason that Sanitaire ALWAYS slips the belt when vacuuming up solids or powders.

Electrolux belts are not "forever" belts. They can and will eventually wear out and have to be replaced. Normally, when an Electrolux belt wears, it becomes dry and brittle or segments start popping off of the belt. The sad thing, is the older belts are much more longer lasting and well constructed than the newer belts.
