Hoover UH700015 Handle Foot Latch Broken

I have a Hoover UH70015, 10 to 12 years old, runs like a champ, but the foot-latch for tilting the handle from vertical is broken. I cannot find a spot where the catch broke off or anything, and all of the info and parts diagrams that I have found online don't show enough detail to let me know where to disassemble/repair. Any ideas?

Depending on how much knowledge and comfort you have I'd just take off pieces until you see what you need to fix or you could take it to a shop i can't imagine a pedal replacement is too much
