Hoover U4349/Serial Numbers

Hi!

I just bought a Hoover U4349, serial number 00094518, and was wondering when mine was manufactured. The original sales receipt from Ernst Home Centers is dated 1-21-83. I'm curious when it would have been made. Is there a database of Hoover serial numbers? If there isn't, I'd be happy to help create one.

Hoover started putting dates in the serial numbers in 1987. The first two digits would be the month, the second two would be the year. Prior to that, there wasn't a way to date them.

Since you have the receipt from 1-1983 I would say that's pretty close to it.

You can use newspapers.com and keep going through the years until you find the first mention of it. September 2, 1982 was when it first was advertised.
